Khanqah-e-Moula (Kashmiri: خانٛقاهِ معلىٰ), also known as Shah-e-Hamadan Masjid and Khanqah, is a mosque located in the Old City of Srinagar in Jammu and Kashmir, India. Situated on the right bank of the river Jhelum between the Fateh Kadal and Zaina Kadal bridges, it was first built in 1395 CE, commissioned by Sultan Sikendar in memory of Mir Sayyid Ali Hamadani. It is held to be the first Khanqah—mosques associated with specific saints—in the Kashmir valley. It is one of the best examples of Kashmiri wooden architecture, and is decorated with papier mache.[1]

Winter in Kashmir

Winter is the coldest season in Kashmir. It starts from November in Kashmir and lasts in the middle of March. There is hitting chill in the air. Cold and icy winds blow throughout this time. Days are short and nights are long.
People put on their woolen clothes as soon as winter season sets in. They use blankets and others warm coverings. Phiran is very famous in Kashmir and is commonly put on during winter. All activities come to standstill. Life in the valley become immobile. People especially elders confine themselves within theirs homes. Government offices are shifted to Jammu. Business comes to an end. Birds and beasts retire into their hidings.

Its trees are the first blooming fruit trees and an enchanting sight that lends glamour to the spring in kashmir, almond, known as the king of nuts among dry fruits, is a highly nutritious food. It is rich in almost all the elements needed by tile body. It is an effective health-building food, both for the body and mind and a valuable food remedy for several common ailments. Almond is a complete food with different types of healthy fats, minerals, vitamins, calcium, carbohydrates, proteins, fibers and other health secrets in it, which can help us fight various diseases right from the problem of memory loss to the siemens loss. Almonds help reducing the risk of heart disease, diabetes, and some chronic diseases. It also rejuvenates the skin, gives it a glow and helps us in looking younger. If almond paste is regularly applied to the skin, it helps in preventing wrinkles, pimples, black heads etc. And prevents skin from getting dry.
the almond cultivation in india is restricted to selected hilly areas of jammu and kashmir, himachal pradesh and uttar pradesh. The j&k government has formulated almond development program for bringing additional 12000 hectares more area under its cultivation in a phased manner. Presently, an area of 18870 hectares is under almond cultivation with total production of 9672 metric tones. The experts have suggested strategies for increasing almond fruit set and artificial pollination with bouquets. The research has indicated that the bouquets increased the fruit set and the affected decreased rapidly with the distance even with a tree. The pollen germination tests revealed no differences between one day old flowers from cut or intact limbs. Then the bud pollination was found to be very effective as it would accept pollen from the same flower and would overcome self- compatibility and highest fruit set was 5. 66 per cent in jammu and kashmir. almond types
there are two varieties of almond, sweet almond and bitter almond. There are thin-skinned and thick-skinned among the sweet variety. The thin-skinned, known as kagzi in vernacular, is the best for use. The bitter variety of almonds should not be used as they contain prussic acid, a deadly poison. They have, however, some commercial importance and are used for producing almond oil, perfume and cosmetics.

I've never seen anywhere in the world as beautiful as Kashmir. It has something to do with the fact that the valley is very small and the mountains are very big, so you have this miniature countryside surrounded by the Himalayas, and it's just spectacular. And it's true, the people are very beautiful too.

Dal Lake, the Jewel in the Crown of Kashmir
One of the largest tourist attractions in India is Dal Lake, situated in Kashmir. Spreading over an area of 18–22 square kilometers, the vast sheet of water reflects the carved wooden balconies of houseboats and the misty peaks of the Pir Panjal mountains. The effect is truly stunning
During the Mughal period, the Lake Shore served as the summer resort of the Mughal Emperors. The Lake, also known as "Lake of Flowers" or "Jewel in the crown of Kashmir," is famous for its scenic location and its floating vegetable market, and thousands of people live on its shores.
Floating Vegetable Garden
The Sabji Bazaar (meaning vegetable market) is the prime fascination for tourists in the valleys of Kashmir. It is an unorganized market where individual sellers gather in the center of the lake at the break of day and wrap up just as the sunlight touches the water.
All the items sold here are produced in the floating gardens situated in the same lake. The suppliers of this market start their day at 4.00 am, heading to their floating gardens to reap their harvest. The freshly uprooted vegetables are then taken to the Sabji Bazar situated at the center of Dal Lake.
There are no permanent shops on the lake. The local traders conduct their usual business in this floating market with the help of their boats. They row through the water by sitting in the front of their canoes in a cross-legged position, protecting themselves from the outside cold using long sweaters.
This bazaar (market) is one of the few places where the barter system is still practiced in India. Partially adopting the traditional exchange system with the local traders, it also accepts the modern currency system for tourists and vendors.
This market doesn't encourage selective or partial selling of items; it focuses instead on selling wholesale. The items for sale include tomatoes, carrots, turnips, leafy vegetables, and the famous nadru (lotus roots, a delicacy in the Kashmir Valley), all sown in the rich ecosystem of this wetland. The popular Kashmir flowers are also produced and sold in this market.
There is a rush of sellers and vendors at the crack of the day, and as the clock hits seven in the morning, the crowd vanishes and the place becomes silent as if the market never existed. Any vegetables left over after the haggling and exchange process are taken to street markets.
The most interesting fact about this lake is that the two-and-half-hour market has an annual turnover estimated to be in the range of Rs. 35 crores (almost $5,000,000 USD!).
Tourist having a Shikara ride through the Dal Lake.
After witnessing the famous market, take a leisurely two-hour ride through the local canals to see the beauty of Dal Lake and the nature bounded by Pir Panjal mountains in a never-ending view.
As a tourist, I stayed not in houseboat. The houseboats surrounding this lake are a legacy of British tourism in India. The story of this surprising inheritance is as follows. Before independence, during the Dogra rule of Kashmir, the British were not allowed to build houses in the valley. So to overcome this rule, the British ordered the building of lavish houseboats, each with elaborate walnut-wood carvings and splendid open decks. These houseboats are called "a little piece of England afloat on Dal."
The cold breeze kept me shivering throughout my Shikara ride. My driver and my guide my travel agent my all in one Mr. MOHMAD RAFIQ KHAN mob 9797808804 offered me the traditional Kashmiri tea to fight the cold. Further rowing through the interior, I witnessed the beautiful view of the sky turning white from dark. I could see houses that open up to the lake. The only mode of transportation to these houses is by shikara. The people here are all dressed in traditional clothing and sweaters. As a whole, it was a great journey that filled my heart.thanks for Mr Khan
