Eid-ul-Adha, also known as Bakra Eid, Bakrid, Eid Qurban or Qurban Bayarami, is one of the most auspicious Islamic festivals.

Jamiat Ulama-i-Hind, the oldest and largest socio-religious organization of Indian Muslims, announced that Eid-ul-Adha will be celebrated on June 29. Bangladesh, Pakistan, Japan, Malaysia, Indonesia, Canada and Singapore will also mark Bakrid on the same day as India. Meanwhile, Saudi Arabia will celebrate the festival on June 28.

Muslims across the globe are getting ready to celebrate this joyous festival with family and friends. The festival honors and commemorates Prophet Ibrahim's absolute dedication to Allah. It recognises Abraham's (Ibrahim's) determination to offer his son Ishmael (Ismail) as a sacrifice on the word of God. The yearly Hajj pilgrimage to the sacred city of Mecca is concluded with this feast. The meal prepared from the sacrifice is distributed in 3 equal parts - one portion feeds the family, the second is for the relatives, and the third is for the poor and needy. It is believed that even though neither the meat nor the blood reaches Allah, the devotion of people reaches him.
