White-bellied Heron is an exceptionally rare heron, about which little is known. It is also known as Imperial Heron and Great White-bellied Heron. As per IUCN status, the species is critically endangered. The worldwide population is probably under 250 birds out of which Indian population is less than hundreds. It requires forest with large trees adjucent to wetlands, rivers and lakes. Population is continuosly decreasing due to habitat distruction and hunting by locals. It is protected in Myanmar and in Bhutan, both legally and culturally. Legal protection is also needed in India and Bangladesh.
Our group was lucky to see this largest living Heron on the last day of our tour while returning from Walong. All credit goes to our birdng guide Palash. The bird was totally camouflaged on the opposite bank of Lohit river. Fortunately, it flew and sat on the tree facing the sun and we all could observe it well and could take some good photos.

People usually prefer mineral water from plastic bottles over the local water specially during travel. The reason behind it is fear of falling sick. The impressive advertisements of bottled water have created misconception in the mind of consumers that it is of higher quality and purer than tap water. Bottled Water probably doesn’t come from where you think it does.
The research shows drinking bottled water is more hazardous to health than normal water. These bottles are directly exposed to sun during transportation which results into release of toxins which when consumed can cause cancer. In addition, these used bottle are bad for the environment.
On our tours we discourage use of bottled mineral water unless absolutely necessary and we encourage our participants to drink natural mineral water or local filter water.
