Date-22st Oct 2023

Junglehike successfully completed the yearly free birding trip at Karnala Bird Sanctuary.
All excited participants reached on time and the trail begin at 7.30AM. It was decided to take the famous Hariyal Trail. Puff-throated Babbler and White-rumped Shama welcomed all with their melodious songs. After a few minutes we got a special sighting of the rare passage migrant 'Lesser Cuckoo'. After seeing many regular birds we saw one more jewel the 'Oriental Dwarf Kingfisher'. Though it's a regularly seen bird during monsoon, it was an unusual sighting for October. These two sightings were the highlights from the trip. Every year Karnala has surprised us with some rarities.
Thanks to all experts for managing the trail very well and participants who followed all instructions and made the trip successful.

Junglehike's Nature Trail at Mahuli Hills.

Date-21st Oct 2023

A wonderful morning spent in the lap of huge mountains. The post monsoon forest was like an open restaurant for all beautiful creatures. Plenty of butterflies and honey bees were busy in mud puddling as well as nectering. Glory Lily and Karvi were in full bloom. Regular resident birds were busy feeding and bathing. Listening to the perennial stream and birds was very soothing in the undisturbed forest. The unexpected call of a Malabar Trogon surprised all of us but we could not locate due to dense forest. Nevertheless it was an amazing and scenic experience for participants.

Few bird highlights
Jungle Owlet
Tawny-bellied Babbler
Large Cuckooshrike
Vigors's Sunbird
Grey Wagtail
Small Minivet
Indian Grey Hornbill
Cinereous Tit
Yelllow-footed Green Pigeon

Junglehike's 'World Migratory Bird Day' celebration at Mumbra Hills.

Date-14th Oct 2023

Junglehike celebrated World Migratory Bird Day by conducting a free raptorwatch at Mumbra Hills. The aerial show of many birds of prey was really fantastic during the walk. We all forgot the climbing of nearly 200 steps, very hot, sunny and hazy weather, long wait for the raptors and neck pain, when one by one these birds started giving show.
Some resident passerine birds also gave nice studio poses to the photographers. Participants could practically compare the size and shape variation in the raptors. It was nice learning experience for all. After the hectic climb and dehydration, the trip concluded with fresh lime water and happy memories. 😊
