The Max Weber Programme is the largest postdoctoral training programme in the Social and Human Sciences in Europe

The Max Weber Programme offers over 60 fully funded Fellowships to suitably qualified researchers from anywhere in the world who work in or across the relevant disciplines of the EUI (Economics, History, Law and Social and Political Sciences and their subfields). The working language of the Programme is English. The aim of the MWP is to provide Fellows with the experience of membership of a vibran

t academic community, to which they make a central contribution. It is unique in offering a structured Programme that not only supports the individual research of Fellows but also helps them develop the various skills they will need in their future academic careers. The Programme covers all aspects of an academic career, including support for academic writing in English, applying for research grants and the opportunity to teach in some of Europe’s leading universities. In addition the Programme and its Academic Careers Observatory help Fellows develop a strategy for identifying and applying for jobs, and Max Weber Fellows can be found in top academic institutions across the globe

🎉 Congratulations to Max Weber Programme Fellow Andres Reiljan and his co-authors, Diego Garzia, Frederico Ferreira Da Silva, and Alexander H. Trechsel, for winning the 2024 GESIS Klingemann Prize! 🏆

Their research stood out for its innovative examination of affective polarisation, analysing how emotional responses to political parties and leaders influence political behaviour across democracies.

This recognition highlights the significance of their contribution to understanding the dynamics of polarisation and its impact on democratic systems worldwide.👏

🔎 How does the rising election frequency affect electoral participation?

This co-authored paper by Max Weber Fellow, Eva Krejcova, and Filip Kostelka, Professor at the EUI Department of Political Sciences, argues that high election frequency can depress turnout and weaken the effects of party mobilisation.
