Not quite there yet, but soon. This is where we'll be having our first group photo on Monday (if we can all fit on that bridge).

One month from now, we'll be sitting in the Aula Magna conference room in Venice, and TIna Dallas will be about to start her talk "Nicccolo at Large in Venice". Then, after lunch we'll be having a short talk on the Art of Venice from Deborah Conway Read, and then hearing from Jan Fergus on Venice as a Character in the House of Niccolo, before going on a stroll around the locality and having our first group photo taken in front of (or by the side of) the church of San Trovaso (this church has two main entrances, each on a different face of the church, one for each of two main factions of Venice - the Niccolotti and the Castellani).

Exactly two months from now, we will have just finished lunch in the Cloisters of the Don Orione Artigianelli in Venice.

THE REDENTORE FEAST-DAY 16th-17th JULY 2016
If you’re in Venice on the third Saturday and Sunday in July, be sure to take part in the Feast of Redentore, which commemorates the end of the plague of 1576 and is an important and typical feast that is still celebrated for its special significance for Venetians.
Every year a floating bridge is placed over the Giudecca Canal which reaches across to the Redentore Church, for the special religious ceremonies which are associated with.
At dusk, Saint Mark’s basin becomes a stage when it begins to fill up with boats adorned with garlands and balloons, as everyone awaits the main event – the fireworks – which are severely judged by Venetians. The best spots to view the fireworks and their mirror image in the water, are the Giudecca and the Riva degli Schiavoni. For a more remote viewing site, head to Sant’Elena or the Lido. True Venetians view them from the water, organizing party boats that are there from late afternoon on, and bringing a variety of Venetian specialties, with sarde in saor, pasta e fagioli, watermelon and white wine.
When the fireworks are over, people often stroll to the Lido to wait for sunrise.
The following day, cross the floating bridge for the traditional Redentore Regatta (from 4 pm) the exciting boat race of which you can catch the best views of the finishing line from the Redentore church. The Redentore is a great time to be in Venice, very festive, a Venetian party but everybody can join in: you'll enjoy it!

Rather dull for most people, unless you are actually attending the Carnival. But when the video starts, to the left (out of site) is the Zattere vap stop and, at 25 seconds in, the dull unassuming door of the Don Orione appears.
