Traditional Japanese house in a classic residential neighbourhood located between 2 of Kyoto’s top 3 attractions: Kiyomizu Temple (清水寺) and Fushimi Inari Shrine (伏見稲荷大社)
The entire house is yours! We're conveniently located in Southern Higashiyama (Eastern Kyoto City) - the most important sightseeing district in Kyoto! This spacious two floor house accommodates 1 to 7 people. The upper level is a
n open design with tatami mats (traditional Japanese straw mats), hardwood floor and sliding doors. The lower floor has the bathroom with separate toilet and bathing area, kitchen, and another tatami room. The house is decorated in the Japanese style. We also use Japanese bedding, collectively called Futon. You will sleep in Futon on the tatami mats, which is the Japanese style. One of the bedrooms on the second floor is equipped with 2 single western Style beds. Little mom & pop stores on the road leading up to the house include a bakery, green grocer, liquor store, two small restaurants, home supply stores, hiking station mini-store, and vending machines. 3 grocery stores can be found on the main road about a 5 minute walk south of the bus stop. There are also 6 local restaurants on the main road close to the bus stop.
**For nature lovers we have access to 2 major hiking trails, one of them just a 5min walk away! (The Mt. Kiyomizu trail)
We’re located off of Higashi Oji St. (東大路通), Higashiyama’s main street, at the Imagumano bus stop (今熊野). The house is on the small road called Daigo-michi that goes up the hill. It’s a 6 min walk to our office. Jizo House is located right next to it. The slope is moderate, with the steepest part at the very beginning. However, we do recommend that our guests be in reasonable health and fitness in order to avoid any kind of unpleasant experience.
**Directions**
Getting here from Kyoto Station:
We definitely recommend that you take a taxi from Kyoto station to our office for check-in (and when you check-out). The taxi will cost about 800yen ($7.30 USD). There is no tipping in Japan, so this is the total price for the taxi ride! By comparison buses & trains cost 230yen to 250yen+ per person. We will send you instructions/map to give to the taxi driver because they will most likely not speak English. Bus Access:
The road to our house is located right next to the Imagumano (今熊野) bus stop. This stop is perfect for seeing all of the sights in Higashiyama - the most historically dense and exciting area of Kyoto for visitors! 3 buses stop here. The buses go to Kyoto Station ( #208), the Imperial Palace ( #202), and Gion & Downtown ( #207) - all via Higashi Oji St. Train Access:
The closest train station is Tofukuji station (東福寺駅), about a 15-20 minute walk from your door. This station goes to Fushimi Inari Shrine (south), Kyoto Station, and northern Higashiyama.
