The maneki-neko (lucky cat) figurines pictured here are said to have been created because of the legend of a lucky cat seen in the 17th century at Gotoku-ji, a Zen Buddhist temple in the Setagaya Ward of Tokyo.
Having one of these cat figurines, paired with an attitude of gratitude, is said to bring happiness and luck to your life.

Japan is known for its kaiju (or giant monsters). This giant gorilla statue is located on a commercial building on Chazawa-dori, a street in Sangenjaya known for shopping and dining.

Did you know that honkaku shochu, the single distilled shochu made in Kagoshima using only Kagoshima-sourced ingredients, has a similar effect on the body as red wine? It is rich in urokinase, a thrombolytic enzyme much like polyphenol, which aids blood circulation. Unlike wine, though, shochu is often served mixed—with hot or cold water, green tea or soda—or simply poured over ice.
This is Meijigura, one distillery that makes honkaku shochu.

Their intricate armor is made in Marutake Sangyo, Kagoshima Prefecture, which makes an estimated 90% of all samurai armor made in Japan for TV programs, movies, museum exhibits and so on.

In Ibusuki, the hot spring of choice is the sand bath! This unique onsen heats the body deep inside thanks to naturally occurring geothermal heat under the beach.
Simply change into a cotton yukata robe, wrap your hair in a towel and stroll to the shore where staff will gently bury you in sand for ten minutes and place an umbrella over you to keep off any sun.
Afterwards, you’re sure to feel relaxed and invigorated!

This massive white torii gate marks the entrance to Terukuni Shrine, which was founded in 1864.
It’s a popular spot due it it’s central downtown location and adjacent leafy park and square - both great for relaxing, having something to eat or people-watching.
