Come running or walking with Diani Hash House Harriers

Runners with a drink problem or drinkers with a running problem.

Hash House Harriers is a worldwide organisation for people who enjoy a run (or a long walk) and a social drink after the event.

Typically groups meet once or twice a month. Each meet takes the form of a paper chase also known as Hare and Hounds. From the assembly at a popular bar the group (Hounds) set off to pursue a prepared trail, laid by the Hare. Our trails tend to be 5km for the walkers and 7-8km for the super keen runners. Ideally runners and walkers arrive back at the start at roughly the same time after about an hour of stiff walking or running. The Hare attempts to set a demanding trail with false trails where the markings either show a dead end or just stop. Hounds have to retrace their steps and cast around for a more promising route. Identifying the correct trail is usually a co-operative effort with parties or runners signaling to each other that they have found a new trail with the cry of 'On On' or 'On Back' if they find it's a false trail.

When everyone is back and accounted for there is a ceremony known as 'The Circle' the master of ceremonies calls everyone to order. The Hounds score the Hares efforts with a score out of 10 and the Hare is toasted. New Hashers are introduced to the group and the virgins are toasted. After 3 runs with the group Hashers are given Hash Names, the newly named Hashers are baptized and toasted. There are Hash offences, things that ought not to be done while on the trail or in The Circle, Arriving Late, Short Cutting, Losing The Trail and so on. Accusations are made and a verdict and punishment devised, the punishment is usually beer related, various forms of toasts. Oh yes there are songs too, with more toasts. Good exercise and beery nonsense. SCHHH has always been a family friendly group, if your children can manage a 5km walk you are all very welcome.

Find us on FaceBook for details of our next meet – Diani Hash House Harriers, we meet every other Saturday. Mombasa/North Coast have their own group - Mombasa Hash House Harriers also on FB. Our members tend to attend both groups and we try to arrange our events with no clashes of dates.

Hashers pay subscription of 200/- at each run. Under 12s are just 100/-.

Statue Fonske

What?
The best known and most typical statue of Leuven is Fons Sapientiae on Fochplein, popularly also called Fonske.
It designates Leuven not only as a wise university city, as well as a pleasant college town.
Fons Sapientiae literally means "source of wisdom"
He has a book in one hand and with the further he pours the necessary wisdom in his head.
That casting sometimes interpreted differently: it would be a glass of Stella students that makes life enjoyable.

From Eddy

Leuvenites can understand it their way - for us it will be The Down Down Statue.

For most of us, the words "pub" and "crawl" bring back memories of university days gone by that, quite frankly, we'd rather forget. But the London Hash House Harriers' version of a pub crawl is much, much different. London H...

Special Easter Event - Saturday 4/4/15 Tiwi Beach Walk

We assembled at Merybel the bar between Morning Star and Moiz. We had surprise visitors Fishkiller and Hashish from one of the Nairobi Hashes what a pleasant surprise. And we waited and waited. At 1.45 we decided to set off Akuku Danger having contacted us to tell us he was still at the ferry. We cut straight down to the beach and found the tide was alarmingly high so the walk to the Kongo River was hard work. Crossing the river was fun we found it was at least waist deep so we were all soaked through. AS received another call from Maxine who plans to join our group, she had made her way (late) to the Old Mosque and bravely waded across to join us.

On the Tiwi side we found the tide was so high that it looked as though we might not make it to Twiga Lodge but fortunately there is a well worn path that took us around the small headland and back to the beach, We arrived at Twiga about 3.00 and took several well earned beers.

High Tide was about 4.30 and we set off back from Twiga about 4.00 by this time we had heard from Akuku that he and Betty were parked up at the Old Mosque and swimming but the river was now too deep to cross but AS, Philip and Major Disaster waded across and AS found himself swimming across. The others had spotted a canoe which was doing service as a ferry and managed to cross without getting their feet wet - wimps.

We took the lane up from the mosque MD, Philip and Trunk Call left us there returning home, the reminder piled into a matatu and returned to Merybel, Akuku and Betty had left the beach and were bar hopping and eventually joined us at Merybel.

It wasn't a proper Hash and not the best introduction to hashing for our virgins/visitors but I really like doing it, crossing the river is a real adventure.

Present from SCHHH Sleepy, Flasher, MD, TC, AS and virgin Maxine, from NHHH Fishkiller, Hashish and Betty and from MHHH Akuku Danger.

MHHH meet is next weekend 11th April. SCHHH next scheduled meet is 18th April please note AS will not be present and MD will also be away. AS has paper and dice etc. and will co-operate with Hare/s.
