Kasoo Dan Safaris

Kasoo Dan Safaris When you want more from your safari! (Dan) I was born a Maasai (Kenya’s most famous tribe) at Laikipia, Kenya in 1974.

I attended primary and high school in Dol Dol. Maasai are nomadic people, which means we move in search of grass and water for our livestock. I remember as a child when my father sent me to boarding school and when I came back they had moved somewhere else for nomadic reasons. Lucky enough, there were neighbors that haven't moved but preparing to do so, who showed me where they had gone by giving

me directions by holding a stick! After high school, I stayed at home to move the cows around when there was drought since my family couldn't afford to get me into university or a college. In 1995, I joined the Lewa Wildlife Conservancy in Kenya as a ranger and within a year, the management noticed my effort and hard work and I attended a ranger’s course in South Africa. When I returned, I was promoted to be one of the top rangers in the conservancy. I then advanced to Manyani Kenya Wildlife service training for further rangers training and administration. I liked being a ranger even though once I did exchange bullets with a bandit (poacher). I was shot in the leg, but all this was in the line of duty and it didn't deter my work and passion for wildlife at all. In 2001, I joined the tourism industry at Lewa Safari camp, and after five months I passed the bronze level and soon silver level at Utalii College for a Tertiary education (certificate). I am looking forward to do getting my Gold level towards the end of this year or next. At the Lewa Safari camp, I took guests for walks and drives and advanced to be Head Guide/Assistant Manager of the camp. I was also given the responsibility to do Marketing. I finally visited the U S A (where many of my guests have come from), in 2006 and 2009. Currently I am in Sasaab as a head guide after joining them in December 2010. With Kasoo Dan Safaris, I want to share my knowledge and experience not only at Lewa and Samuru Sasaab but for the entire country since Kenya is rich in wildlife, culture and scenery.
