Lionesses have a synchronized breeding cycle, which ensures that cubs are born around the same time and can be raised together. This communal parenting strategy provides additional protection for the young and allows the pride to share the workload.

Lionesses take care of their cubs until they are two or three. The mother then goes through estrus (heat cycle) and carries another litter.

The pride then forces male cubs out of the pride (dispersal.) This ensures that there is no inbreeding within the pride. Female cubs may also be forced out, especially if the pride is overcrowded.

While male lions may not directly participate in parenting, they play a crucial role in protecting the pride and its cubs. They will often defend the territory and deter potential threats.
