Devastating news coming from the Nairobi National Park - The famous male lion Sirikoi has passed away

Approximately two months ago at the beginning of April the Kingfisher pride male Sirikoi had received a hip injury that resulted in a fast deterioration of his condition and ultimately caused KWS two weeks ago to make the decision to take him into the vet labs for treatments and observation. By that time he was already extremely emaciated, unable to hunt and only barely able to walk.

Unfortunately his stay at the enclosure combined with pain and frustration led to unexpected complications. After attacking the steel bars he broke his jaw and teeth which resulted in him being completely unable to eat. After long consultations it was then decided to let him go in peace.

Sirikoi was one of a kind. He was a single pride male who did not need any partner to survive. He hunted for himself when, where and what he wanted. And he settled where he wanted, not hesitating to confront other male lions when needed. There exist fantastic sightings of him hunting buffalo and giraffe all alone. An expert hunter. His death is a huge loss for the Nairobi National Park.

He leaves behind the four cubs that he sired with the KF7 lionesses Alamaya and Morana. Without the territorial protection of their pride male their survival is at risk now.

We say our goodbyes to a legend of the Nairobi National Park.
