THE JKIA NIGHTMARE: Why Airport Transfer Services Are A Must!
Jomo Kenyatta International Airport (JKIA), Kenyaβs main international airport, is the largest airport in the East and Central African region and the seventh busiest on the continent. Despite it being one of Africaβs most efficient airports, it can still be a nightmare to navigate. This is because the airport still operates using its original 1958 blueprint that envisioned a maximum capacity of 2.5 million travellers per year. In 2013, JKIA received 6.13 million passengers. It does not help matters that in August 2013 a massive fire destroyed the international arrivals and departures terminal. Faced with this calamity, the airports management elected to use the domestic arrivals and departures terminals for international flights as a stop-gap measure while renovations are concluded.
Although flight schedules were normalized later in 2013, the congestion caused within the airport facilities by the stop-gap measures employed has been considerable. Car traffic within the airport is horrendous! This is due both to construction of new terminals as well as the chaos caused by domestic and international flights using the same terminals. Consequently, finding parking in the airport has become somewhat akin to a dream, and even if one does find parking, the fees are insanely high! No sane person would want to go through the hassle of going to or leaving the airport without a driver.
