Cambodia, Korea Vow to Strengthen and Expand Tourism Cooperation, Especially with Jeju Autonomous Prefecture
(Phnom Penh): Cambodia and the Republic of Korea have committed to strengthen and expand additional tourism cooperation through enhancing the cultural and economic exchange, building more stronger people-to-people relations, and increasing better mutual trust between the two countries, especially with Jeju Autonomous Prefecture.
The commitment came in a talk between H.E. Sok Soken, Minister of Tourism and Mr. OH YOUNG HUN, Governor of Jeju Autonomous Province of the Republic of Korea, on June 12th, 2024 to discuss potential opportunities for cooperation in fostering tourism and more stronger tourism development for the two countries throughout promoting further mutual flow of tourists.
Minister Sok Soken and Jeju Provincial Governor have vowed to strengthen and expand additional tourism cooperation throughout enhancing the cultural and economic exchange, building more stronger people-to-people relations, and increasing better mutual trust between the two countries, especially with Jeju Autonomous Prefecture.
On that occasion, the Minister highlighted the factors of today peace, stability and development of Cambodia, of which the tourism sector has also been high paid attention to restoring and promoting after the COVID-19 crisis.
The Minister thanked the Government of the Republic of Korea for resuming and strengthening greater bilateral relations ranging from people-to-people exchange and re-establishing diplomatic ties in 1997, initiated by Samdech Techo HUN SEN, former Prime Minister and currently as President of Senate to current Royal Government of the 7th legislature under the leadership Samdech Moha Borvor Thipadei HUN MANET Prime Minister has enhanced Cambodia-Korea relations from a simple height to a strategic partnership height; it means that all relations on all of the fields, including employment and tourism sectors of the two nations have been being more deeper expanded and strengthened.
The Minister highlighted the five pillars of the five strategies, called (5BUILD) and the three priority work support projects (3Ds) to contribute to enhancing positive public-private partnerships as well as promoting competitiveness, sustainability and inclusiveness of Cambodian tourism.
The governor of Jeju Province said that Jeju Island and Cambodia have many similarities, including history, natural resources and cultural heritage, which prompted the signing of a memorandum between Siem Reap and Phnom Penh with Jeju Island.
Minister Sok Soken and the provincial governor agreed to study the potential for boosting direct flights between Jeju Island and Siem Reap-Angkor.
