Family Visit to Everland Theme Park (家庭參觀愛寶樂園/에버랜드 테마파크 가족 나들이)
Kamūstà mangá kaìbigan nasa-an mankayo. Once again, Barungas brings you to a very magical place at Korea. On this occasion, I was very priviledged to be with my favorite mayor of Filipinas and his family. The mayor I speak of is Rocky Ilagan of Puerto Galera City. Even though I am originally from Aklan Province, I have very warm feelings for Oriental Mindoro being that my cousins are from there, and in my childhood, I would visit them often. One time, my cousin Marlon was lost when visiting Puerto Galera, and Mayor Ilagan personally sent his tourism liaison to get my cousin the accommodation he needed. From that time, Rocky Ilagan became my favorite mayor in the whole world. You may be asking yourselves, what is this wonderful theme park that looks like a combination of the kingdom of Frozen the movie and Alice in Wonderland. This amusement park that you are viewing is Everland; the most popular theme park in all of Korea. Located in the city of Yongin within the Seoul metropolitan area, Everland was officially opened in 1976, and has steadily grown from that time to become the fairytale resort it is today. During this visit to Everland, we were very lucky to book our tickets in time for the Christmas Season and the special events taking place there for the holidays. The day’s Everland adventure begins with a bus ride directly from a hotel near the amusement park as there are many. Now that Mr. Ilagan and his crew have left the bus, we are all approaching Everland, and who could this person be leading the group? It is none other than the best tour guide in Korea and my personal mentor Eric. As we are all approaching the main gate, you can see the excitement and anticipation for what lies ahead; especially in the eager faces of the children. Once at the main entrance, the anticipation for what is on the other side cannot be contained as the magic can be felt in the brisk winter air. Now that Rocky Ilagan, his family and guests have taken time for a photo op in front of the iconic Everland characters, it is time to discover the many delights that this famous park has to offer. Now that Mayor Ilagan’s extended family has gotten a glimpse at what Everland has to offer, they have all gotten in line to enjoy one of the most popular rides at this park, which is the spinning pendulum. One thing that is very reassuring about Everland Park are the safety greeters that are to be found observing every ride. Most are very enthusiastic about their job like the young lady seen happily dancing to cheerful music as the ride picks up speed while apparently going increasingly higher. I myself did not go on this ride because of my delicate stomach, so it would have been a bad idea to do so. Now that the rotating spinner has come to a full stop, the Ilagan family carefully exits the ride, and they can be seen picking up their accessories at shelves like these that are available at every ride for the convenience and assurance of the guests. Now that everyone has regrouped, it is time for them to go on the ever-popular carousel, and this time there are three greeters. This kind of ride is more my speed, because it is relaxed and not so scary. As you can see; just like any amusement park, there are many attractions and rides, but what really sets Everland apart are the carefully curated grounds that took decades of cultivation and care. Everland was originally called Yongin Natural Farm as it began as a forest complex. In 1996, the park officially reopened under the name Everland. If you come visit Seoul any time of the year, you are sure to find festivals that are specific to the season like ‘Snowman World’ in the winter and ‘The Tulip Festival’ in the spring. A visit to Everland Theme Park is sure to create memories that will last ‘forever.’ This is all for this edition of the Korea Happy Together Travel Channel.
