Selected SFTHM students visited the Beirut Airport Catering Company SAL (LBACC), responsible for the preparation, assembly, and supply of food and catering supplies to airlines. They also toured the cabin crew training area, MEA training and conference center. The site visit culminated with a presentation followed by lunch.

SFTHM at the Phoenicia

The first year students, led by their instructor Dr. Pierre Akiki, visited the iconic Phoenicia Hotel in Beirut. They toured the property, observed the daily operations, and learned about the different hotel departments.

SFTHM at Ammiq

The second year SFTHM students spent the day in Ammiq hiking and exploring the Lebanese countryside under the supervision of their Tourism Instructor, Ms. Joyce Younes.

The SFTHM held a Job Fair on April 27, 2023, including a range of hospitality companies from different sectors.
This was an excellent opportunity for our students and alumni to meet with potential employers and learn more about the job market, in addition to gaining valuable insights and finding out what employers are looking for in potential hires.
They had the chance to network with recruiters and get one-on-one help with their job search.

EHL at the SFTHM

In April 2023, the EHL (Ecole hoteliere de Lausanne) Team from Switzerland visited the SFTHM as part of the re-certification process. The team spent three days touring both campuses, learning about the renovation process, auditing the ULS/SFTHM/EHL standards, and visiting with students, faculty, and administration.

As part of the Guest Speaker Series at the SFTHM, Alexandra and Isabelle Sayegh, founders of Eat Like Izzy, spoke to the first year students to share their experience as young entrepreneurs in the Lebanese market.

The SFTHM welcomed Ms. Darine Sfeir, Revenue Manager of Le Royal Hotel, as part of the Guest Speaker Series. In this initiative, students interact with industry professionals to learn about day-to-day operations and real-life challenges that are presented in the workplace.

Annual Parents' Dinner 2023

In the presence of the Sagesse University Provost, Professor Georges Nehme, representing the President, Professor Lara Karam Boustany, and the Acting Dean of the Faculty of Tourism and Hotel Management, Dr. Marleine Ishac, the BS1 students hosted the Annual Parents Dinner on the Achrafieh campus at Le Gastronomique Restaurant on March 16, 2023.

During her speech, Dr. Ishac praised the students for their hard work and encouraged them to strive for excellence in the hospitality field, and she thanked the administration, faculty members and students for their passion, motivation and devotion towards the entire faculty of hospitality management. This event, that includes faculty, instructors, and parents, allowed the first-year students to showcase their practical skills in both the kitchen and service areas and created the opportunity for parents to meet with the faculty members.

Elissa El Kareh and Gaby Joe Farah, both third year students at the Sagesse Faculty of Tourism and Hotel Management, were selected to represent the faculty at the international summit in Lausanne in March of 2023.

The Young Hoteliers Global Summit (YHS), held annually in Switzerland at Ecole hôtelière de Lausanne, engages students in activities, discussions and workshops related to the global hospitality industry. The 2023 Global Summit was titled, “Circularity.”

Elias Abou Jaoude received the award for first runner up in the World's Best Hotel Receptionist 2023 competition in Doha, Qatar. A recent graduate of the SFTHM, Elias represented the Jumeirah Al Qasr hotel in Dubai, UAE. Congratulations to Elias on this notable achievement!

The SFTHM was pleased to welcome Mr. Sebastien Mariette, General Manager and Area General Manager of the Kempinski, along with the GM of the Kempinski Summerland Beirut, Mr. Markus Iseli. They conducted a presentation about Kempinski Hotels, spoke about industry trends, and motivated the students by sharing industry stories and possibilities.

In February of 2023, Dr. Marlene Ishac, Acting Dean of the Faculty of Tourism and Hotel Management, and Ms. Kim Glazier, Consultant, EHL and SIR, virtually attended EHL's (Ecole hoteliere de Lausanne) SOTL 2023 Conference entitled, "The 5th Annual Scholarship of Teaching and Learning Conference." This innovative program discussed how to personalize faculty development, use collaborative and didactic tools, and craft formative feedback.

Independence Day at the SFTHM

The SFTHM celebrated Independence Day with an on-campus celebration organized by the Events Club. Dr. Marlene Ishac, Acting Dean, gave a patriotic speech emphasizing the importance of the day, and the students participated in many fun activities while enjoying select food and beverages.

Professor Lara Karam Boustany, President of ULS; Professor Georges Nehme, Provost; Dr. Marlene Ishac, Acting Dean of the SFTHM, and EHL Consultant, Kim Glazier, paid a visit to the École Hôtelière de Lausanne (EHL), the world's first hotel management school, in Lausanne, Switzerland, to meet with the management team. The SFTHM is the only university in Lebanon that is certified by the prestigious EHL program.
