Highland toque macaque - Macaca sinica opisthomelas

This subspecies similar to Wet zone Toque macaque - Macaca sinica aurifrons, but has a long fur and contrasting golden color in the anterior part of its brown cap. Endemic to Sri Lanka.

Red Pierrot - Common species in Sri Lanka. Upper side is black with a broad red band on the outer margin of the hindwing. The cilia are alternately marked in black and white. The patches on its underside are variable. Though the number and size of black patches on white area of the basal parts vary, both wings always have cell end patches. "ONE STEP TO WILD - 02" - The second wildlife photography workshop as part of the ONE STEP TO WILD series took place last Saturday. AWPC Sri Lanka organised a birding field tour to the Makandawa rain forests of Kithulgala on the 17th of April 2021. 25 individuals attended this workshop, of which 18 were wildlife photographers.

Indian Cormorant- Phalacrocorac fuscicollis - An all black ducklike waterbird with blue - green eyes, a rounded head, sloping forehead, and long and slender bill that is sharply hooked at the end. Variegated Flutterer - Rhyothemis variegata variegata - Very common dragonfly found throughout the year usually as large groups near weedy tanks, streams, paddy fields and mash areas of low country. Toque Macaque - Macaca sinica. This species endemic to Sri Lanka. There are three subspecies found from deferent part of the country, Macaca sinica aurifrons (Wet zone ssp.). Macaca sinica opisthomelas (Wet zone mountain ssp.) and Macaca sinica sinica (Dry zone ssp.). Head and body 40 - 53 cm. Tail 46 - 62 cm. Weight 3.5 - 8.5 kg. Mails larger than females.
