Sri Lanka’s Deep South, otherwise known as Hambantota district, is the southernmost tip of the country. It’s a vibrant area filled with history, culture, national parks, and of course, breath-taking beaches. The 3 major hubs of the Deep South are the towns of Tangalle, Hambantota, and Tissamaharama.

Tourists generally come to see wildlife at Yala and Bundala National National Parks and to relax on the beach, but there’s more to Hambantota than that! Boasting a rich history and continual ties with tradition, you can still see the annual pilgrimage to Kataragama, temples and monasteries, colonial architecture, and the gallows that still haunt Hambantota.
