" Light Pollution will be the focus of the World Migratory Bird Day 2022 campaign.

Artificial light is increasing globally by at least 2 per cent per year and it is known to adversely affect many bird species. Light pollution is a significant threat to migratory birds, causing disorientation when they fly at night, leading to collisions with buildings, perturbing their internal clocks, or interfering with their ability to undertake long-distance migrations.

Solutions to light pollution are readily available. For instance, more and more cities in the world are taking measures to dim building lights during migration phases in spring and autumn. Best practice guidelines are also being developed under the Convention on Migratory Species to address this growing issue and ensure that action is taken globally to help birds migrate safely. "

Suba Aluth Avuruddak Wewa! πŸ™
( Which means the way of traditional greetings for the New Year )

The traditional significance of the festival is that all the rituals are performed according to the Auspicious times.

Sinhalese New Year, generally known as Aluth Avurudda , is a Sri Lankan holiday that celebrates the traditional New Year.

It is a major anniversary celebrated by not only the Sinhalese people but by most Sri Lankans.

One of the most celebrated festivals in Srilanka, symbolizing prosperity and ethnic harmony in the country, is the time of joy and renewal for Sinhala and Tamil population in Sri Lanka. April 13th marks the journey of the Sun from Meena to Mesha (from Pisces to Aries) in the Zodiac advocating the dawn of a new year for Sri Lankans according to the Sinhala calendar.

Cultural anthropological history of the 'Traditional New Year' which is celebrated in the month of April, goes back to an ancient period in Sri Lankan history. People think that the celebration of the new year is the change of thoughts too. Various beliefs, perhaps those associated with the fertility of the harvest, gave birth to many rituals, customs, and ceremonies connected with the New Year.

The New year vibe spreads all over the island since the beginning of the month of April although celebrated on 13th and 14th of April. New year festivals are held around the island throughout the month, comprising of different traditional games where both children and adults take part in to cherish this joyful period of the year.

" Wolvendaal Church (Wolvendaalse Kerk) is located in Pettah, a neighbourhood of Colombo. It is one of the most important Dutch Colonial era buildings in Sri Lanka, and is one of the oldest Protestant churches still in use in the country.

The baptismal font, on an ornately carved tripod stand, dates back to 1667th century.

The pulpit is typical for a Dutch Reformed Church, where the minister stands higher than the congregation on a richly ornamented wooden structure. "

Temple of the Sacred Tooth Relic

"The temple which is venerated by thousands of local & foreign devotees and tourists daily was named as a world heritage by UNESCO. The temple which carries a lot of value to Buddhists all over the world also has immense cultural value. The architecture is of unique Kandyan architectural style with a combination of the unique style used to build β€œDalada Mandira” the shrines which housed the Sacred Tooth Relic previously in other kingdoms."
