The Beyer-Garratt Locomotive Number 293, built for operation on the Uda Pusellawa Railway from Nanuoya to Ragala, was completed in 1941, as depicted in these photographs.

It experienced a derailment near Nuwara Eliya, close to Holy Trinity College in Hawa Eliya.
This locomotive was involved in a serious accident near Nuwara Eliya in 1941 while hauling a freight train at excessive speed, resulting in its temporary withdrawal from service.

After undergoing repairs, it returned to service in 1944. Until the 1960s, H1 No. 293 was occasionally used on the Kelani Valley narrow gauge line.
