Shades of Blue

On a good day, I’d paint all shades of blue
The cyan, palatine, torques and azure hues
Bright eyed white bubbles on sandy shore
Brush strokes of alabaster mixed with sky blue
On a good day the sun will smile wide with you
Happy waves and words sincerely true
Breeze whisper secrets to mangrove groves
Liquid sapphire eyes seeing things through and through
On a bad day fifty shades of grey take hold of the view
Cast a sense of gloom with every hum, every wave ashore
Robbed of colour, listless under the heavy clouds as they threw
their spell of dementors charm over everything with a glow
On a bad day, I’d crawl under in my den of doom
Trying to scratch away the black pastel, creating patterns with thorns
hoping to see the vivid shades, my lucid self, that I owned
buried beneath the layers of dark crayon strokes
