Hidden Monastic Ruins at Ritigala : The monastery of Ritigala is an ancient Buddhist site with history dating back to the 1st century BC. Set within the Ritigala Strict Nature Reserve, the monastic ruins snake their way up the mountainside along a beautiful winding stone path. Originally home to an order of ascetic monks (called, quite wonderfully, the ‘Monks of the Rag Robes), the monastery was expanded over several centuries and became a popular pilgrimage site before being abandoned to the forest between the 10th and 12th centuries.

The Navam Full Moon Poya Day in February has a particular meaning for Buddhists. To mark this day, the Gangarama Temple has conducted the Navam Maha Perahera pageant on the 5th and 6th of February, 2023. Many skills in traditional Kandyan arts are showcased at the event. Furthermore, the Perahera promotes community cohesion since individuals of many races and religions go to observe the celebrations. Since 1979, the Gangarama Temple has hosted a vibrant and festive celebration.

WATER WORLD SRI LANKA

Water World Lanka is South Asia’s first aquarium with an underwater tunnel and the only type of such public aquarium in Sri Lanka. SNAKE FARM

Snake Farm is situated in Matara in southern Sri Lanka. The Snake Farm consists of a variety of snakes, both poisonous and non-poisonous. Visitors get to tour around the farm to view the snakes and as well as get to know more about their natural habitat. The snakes here include cobras,pythons, vipers, vine snakes, blind snakes, keel-backs, racers and cat snakes etc. The farm also provides Ayurveda treatment for snake poisoning.

Meemure is a remote village with a population of merely 400 nestled in the Knuckles Mountain Range of Sri Lanka. KADADORA VIHARAYA

Kadadora Vihara (Also known as Kadadora Sri Priyabimbaramaya Vihara) was a Buddhist temple, situated in Kadadora, Nuwara Eliya District, Sri Lanka. The temple was abandoned and ruined as the construction of Kotmale Dam in 1979 by Mahaweli Development programme. The ruins of Vihara still can be seen when the water level of Kotmale Reservoir is low, but the sight is very rare.

It is said that about 57 villages and 54 religious places in Kotmale were submerged with the completion of the reservoir in 1985. Except Kadadora Vihara other shrines including Thispane Vihara, Morape Devalaya, Othalawa Vihara, Pattini Devalaya and Medagoda Vihara were said to have gone under water when the reservoir was built. However, many of these temple ruins no longer exist.

Rumassala Sanctuary is a popular tourist destination situated in Jungle Beach Road, Unawatuna, Galle. The sanctuary is a botanical paradise with rare plants and medicinal herbs as well as endemic species of birds. It is located surrounding the legendary Rumassala hill which is connected with the epic “Ramayana”. Rumassala is believed to be a part of Himalayas.
