Tafraout is a small Berber town in the Moroccan Anti Atlas mountains, about 130 km south of Agadir. It's known for its stunning pink granite rock formations and groves filled with argan, olive, and almond trees.
Each year, Tafraout hosts the Almond Blossom Festival (in winter) and the Festival of Lights called "Tifawine." The area is lush with vegetation, especially charming from December to February during almond blossom season.
There are many excursions you can take from Tafraout to explore the surrounding Anti-Atlas region. Walking and cycling are great options to discover the nearby Ammeln Valley villages and ancient rock carvings.
About 30 km south of Tafraout are the Ait Mansour gorges, accessible via a winding road. The gorges lead to small mountain oases with abundant water, creating fertile valleys.
A few kilometers further south from Tafraout, you'll find the village of Agard Oudad, where Belgian artist Jean Vérame painted rocks, including one known as "Napoleon's Hat" due to its strange, inclined shape.
The beautiful Ammeln Valley is home to around twenty small traditional villages nestled on the slopes of Jebel Lekst, surrounded by stunning high-altitude groves. You can also find rock art sites nearby, such as engraved gazelles in the village of Tazzeka, just 1 km from Tafraout.
