We are passionate about adventure and in addition to having climbed numerous mountains we have been to every one of twenty one provinces of Mongolia. We know Mongolia, its lands and its people, and we know what makes a journey extraordinary. Making travel in an emerging destination like Mongolia fulfilling requires deep knowledge and commitment to service. We treasure the opportunity to help you have a memorable time in Mongolia.
In June 1965 a team of 15 Mongolian mountaineers, including the celebrated teacher the late Zorig Radnaabazar, resolved to climb the highest peak of Khentii Mountains, Mount Asralt /2800m/. The formidable Mount Asralt sits among magnificent scenery of dense taiga forests and a rocky terrain. After two days of training at the foot of the mountain, the mountaineers led by Zorig Radnaabazar successfully climbed to the peak on June 5, 1965.
As fate would have it, three days later on June 8, 1965 Zorig’s family welcomed their third child, a daughter. Zorig named her after the magnificent peak they just climbed. Thus all his three children were named after mountains: Altai, Orgil and Asralt.
Since then Zorig climbed many mountains around the world in countries like Nepal, Russia, Czech, Japan, India and Poland. Over his lifetime he has made significant contributions to the development of the mountaineering sport in Mongolia. His contributions were recognized by the government of Mongolia with an honorary medal in 1993. The Mongol Altai Mountaineering Club he established in 1986 has organized expeditions to many peaks in Mongolia with mountaineers from around the world for over 20 years.
His daughter Asralt continued his work of welcoming and hosting international adventure seekers. In 2006 Asralt officially established her travel company Wild Mongolia and continues to help mountaineers and travelers from around the world discover Mongolia’s wild landscapes and ancient culture.
Why travel with us?
Journeying safely into glaciers and snowy peaks with a large group requires extreme vigilance and attention to detail. When our company was officially established in 2006 by the daughter of the honored mountaineer Zorig Radnaabazar, Asralt, we naturally carried over our expertise for executing safe and comfortable trips into our new operations.
Nomadic herder’s life depended on the earth and the nomads in turn loved and worshipped the mother earth. At Wild Mongolia we conduct all our operations with care and consideration for the environment having climbed numerous mountains in countries around the world, and traveled across Mongolia for decades.
Wherever we travel to, we believe that respect for the local people and their land should begin with treading lightly on the environment. Before visiting a region we consult with the local people about the places of importance and special significance to them.
When traveling in Mongolia it is common to find a mountain or a waterbody that has been worshipped by the locals as a deity for centuries. People in each province and each area have their own distinct customs and ways. We take care to be mindful and in turn help our travelers to learn about the local way of life. We believe responsible travel means more meaningful encounters and more rewarding journeys.
