Lámina 22: Teocallis at Chichén Itzá.

On this occasion we visited with Jerry the Great Museum of Chichen Itzá, where more than 400 original pieces are exhibited, among the pieces that attract attention is the ceramic drum molded in the shape of a Cup, as well as panels and lintels where the Mayans captured in their hieroglyphic writing a discursive mechanism where events of a historical-political were exalted.

Likewise, we entered into the reconstruction of the substructure of the temple called the Castle.

The museum will soon have a large immersion room with a 360-degree projection with overhead projections, which we hope to visit soon!

Chichen Viejo with Jerry

On this occasion we visited the area known as Chichen Viejo but more accurately “Initial Series” which is located southwest of the center of Chichen Itzá. This site was an elite residential complex, and it was made up of residential, administrative, and religious spaces. The rooms were also scenes for rituals of the elites that inhabited them, most likely the so-called Cupul lineage, one of the noble families of Chichen Itzá. In the area you can see the Ph**li complex, which includes, the house of the same name; Ph**li, the House of the shells, the House of the shields, and next to this complex, there are the Temple of the Owls and the House of the Monkeys. The complex takes the name “Initial Series” since a temple was found on site with a lintel in hieroglyphic writing, written in the long account used by the Maya. According to the evidence and architectural style, archaeologists place it around the earliest constructions around 600/650 AD and the latest occupation around 1150 AD. Currently, the site is undergoing consolidation and restoration work, so the visit is limited to only two days a week with specific hours and prior reservations.

Another experience exploring with Jerry; Natural spectacle in the south of Campeche; The Bat Cave is a natural wonder located in the Calakmul Biosphere Reserve. It is a dry cenote and cave 600 meters deep, where one of the largest populations of bats in this humid tropical jungle live. 9 species of bats have been identified, one of which feeds on nectar and the rest on insects, It is important to be there before sunset when they start to come out, flying in a spiral, This is an incredible experience. It is advisable to enter with a guide who can inform you about preserving and impacting the site as little as possible.
