Where to stay in Playa Del Carmen? Many visitors to Playa choose to stay at the “all inclusive” hotels and resorts where you eat mediocre food in their themed restaurants, watch their dance routine entertainment and hang out at their crowded pools. Most of these resort hotels are located outside of the town of Playa, and to experience the vibe of the town you must take a taxi or bus to get there.
A much better and more economical choice is to book one of the many condos available in the location you choose in Playa del Carmen. Instead of a single hotel room with a bed you get a complete home with a couple of bedrooms, two bathrooms, living area, usually a fully equipped gourmet kitchen, sundeck with hammocks and barbeque and laundry room! Finding your meals at one of the many excellent restaurants available and choosing your own type of food and entertainment is much more exciting and rewarding. Picking up some groceries at the Mega supermarket and creating your own Mexican dinner is an experience all in itself.
The secret is finding the best location; close to the beaches on the Caribbean and walking distance to the restaurants, clubs and bars. A condo at Las Olas (the “waves” in Spanish) fits the bill. A three minute walk to the most popular beach at Mamitas and with Fifth Avenue just around the corner. A suite in the Las Olas condominium can be had for less than a hundred dollars a night and comes with an English speaking property manager to assist with any of your needs; be it tours, the best places to eat or the best beach to spend the day. All in all, booking a suite at Las Olas is a far more personable and enjoyable experience than a hotel.
