You can start this wonderful Progreso Excursion by meeting with your shore excursion guide just minutes away from your Progreso cruise ship pier. You will use the free shuttles provided to get off of the 3-mile long pier and to the meeting point just a short walk from the shuttle stop. Your excursion guide will check you in and then you will get on board for the 25-minute ride to the Cenote Natural Reserve. Along the way, you will see the countryside and your guide will give you information along the way. Once you arrive at the reserve, you will be taken to a dock where you will enjoy a motorized boat ride through the lagoon for about 2-3 minutes. There you'll be shown a path through the mangroves that will lead to the 3 cenotes, spring fed bodies of fresh water, that you can enjoy. Cenote Venado, Cenote Helechos (perfect for small children), and Cenote Pajaros. Your time will include swimming in any or all of 3 pristine cenotes which are surrounded by tropical foliage. The Mayans believed these cenotes had healing powers and you can decide for yourself if they were right. There are also changing rooms, restrooms, and a small souvenir shop available at the reserve. You will see the watchtower that oversees the surrounds and, if you would like, you can climb up to find a great location for photos. No rush, you'll have about an hour to relax. Next, you will head off to the Malecon (main street) where you can take photos at the Progreso sign with its multicolored letters and see the culture and beauty of this small town up close. You will enjoy about 10-15 minutes there. Then it will be time to head to a private beach front restaurant with a 15-minute scenic drive through Progreso to get there. Once at the beach club you'll notice that all the amenities are available and that the beach is private so there are no vendors trying to sell anything. Enjoy the lounge chairs, swimming pool, hammocks, restrooms, and showers. Mexican food, drinks and other offerings are not included in the price, but the prices are very reasonable. Sit back, have a cold Corona and some fresh guacamole! There are also kayaks and massages available at an extra cost. After you've enjoyed about 1.5 hours at the beach you will head to your last stop. About 10-15 minutes away is a lovely handcraft open air market where you can shop for that perfect, one of a kind, souvenir. Once you've finished browsing you will hop back on the free shuttles available to return to your Progreso cruise ship pier.
