🍃 Botanic Monday 🍃

The Roystonea Regia, also knows as the Cuban Royal Palm is a species of palm native to Mexico, that can reach heights from 50 to over 80 feet tall. The seeds of this palm can be used as a source of oil and for livestock feed, the leaves are used for thatching and the wood for construction.

The iconic Saguaro cactus enjoys a long and challenging life across the Baja peninsula. Often reaching 150 years old and 12 meters tall, for many they have come to represent our unique desert and ocean skyline. The saguaro pictured, with its sprawling wingspan lives on in front of Casita del Sol, adding history and charm to the landscape. 🌵

“Shower with a view” is not the only thing all CalyCanto Casitas share in common. The Talavera tiles are also part of the 3 casitas’ decor style and they bring a traditional feeling to its surroundings.
This ceramic style is a mix of Spanish and Mexican culture and they’re very present on Baja’s home designs.

🍃 Botanic Monday 🍃

The Beaucarnea recurvata, most commonly known as the elephant’s foot, is a slow-growing and drought-tolerant Mexican native plant. Its trunk has a flared, enlarged base suggestive of an elephant’s foot, giving it its popular name. It’s an easy plant to grow, being overwatering the most common cause of failure to thrive.

You can find this beautiful specimen in front of Casita del Sol, one of 3 beautiful traditional casitas on the 5 acre property overlooking the Pacific Ocean 🌿

🍃 Botanic Monday 🍃

This delicate (and poisonous) flower named Euphorbia milii aka Christ thorn originates from Madascar and it grows wildly in tropical regions throughout the world.
We have a few of them creatively spaced around the land here at Calycanto 🌿
Fun fact: according to a religious legend, the crown of thorns worn by Jesus Christ at the crucifixion was made from the stems of this plant, therefore its common name.
