After watching the microlife shake themselves awake with the warming sun, your guide will stop the vehicle and show you the way as you ascend the dune to the top. Amble a little while further, being exposed to and immersed in the dune ecosystem... and then, perfectly yet discretely placed with crisply starched linens, napery, silverware and crystal glassware under the bough of an age-gnarled desert Camelthorn Acacia, your breakfast setting awaits you. Your personal Chef eagerly prepares a range of fare, ‘à la minute’, that would befit an aristocratic luxury 1920 safari.

Happy Rhino Day!

This day is being celebrated to raise awareness about the 5 rhinoceros and how we can contribute to the conservation of the remainder of these remarkable species. In Namibia, we have two types of rhinos, white and black rhinos. Today, these are one of the most endangered species on earth, however, Namibia has the healthiest black rhino population in the world and the only large, free-roaming population outside national parks. The country also has a stable white rhino population. The global status of black rhinos remains critically endangered, while that of the white rhino is near threatened.

Poaching continues to be a major threat to these rhinos and global trade in rhino horn is seen as the main cause. These horns have long been used in traditional medicines.

Rhino rangers and trackers have a daily routine patrolling their area, monitoring and evaluating rhino populations. They also play an important role in protecting these special animals by raising awareness among local communities on the importance of conserving our rhinos.

Thank you to all rhino rangers, the Ministry of Environment Forestry and Tourism and Save the Rhino Trust Namibia for playing a key role in preserving rhinos in Namibia.
