UNESCO declared Twyfelfontein already in 2007 as World Heritage Site. In the year 2013, Namibia received its second UNESCO World Heritage. The Namib Sand Sea which is situated in the Namib Naukluft Park. It is home to hundreds of sand dunes, whose form and height are constantly shifting with time due to wind currents. This area commences just south of the Kuiseb River and includes Sandwich Harbour and Sossusvlei. The area covers an enormous area of over three Mio. hectars and has an outstanding and beautiful landscape. Beside its picturesque scenery it is the only coastal desert in the world that includes extensive dune fields influenced by fog. This fog can extend up to 50 km’s into the desert, providing a lifeline to many of its inhabitants. Many species have developed ways of trapping moisture from the fog that comes in from the coast. The Palmato gecko for example is licking its eyeball in the early morning to get the moisture from the morning dew. It shows once more how unique nature works. There is so much life where you actually do not expect any life!

Namibia - tops the list of countries with the lowest population density!

Although Namibia is ranked as the 34th largest country in the world you would not imagine how low the population density of Namibia actually is. After Mongolia it is the second least densely populated country in the world! The current population density of Namibia is 3,2 people per square kilometer. A country with a size of more than 800.000 km² and a population of ca. 2,6 Mio! Take Switzerland, one of the smaller countries in the world. It has a size of ca. 41.000 km². This is double the size of Namibia’s Etosha National Park, one of the largest National Parks in Africa. The population of Switzerland is ca.8,4 Mio and has 208 inhabitants per square kilometer!

Namibia is definitely the land of wide open spaces! A place to rewind your mind and get in touch with nature.

BE PART OF THE ULTIMATE CONSERVATION EXPERIENCE!

Wildlife and Rhino Awareness Tour 2022

Open for bookings:

30.06.-12.07.2022
17.08.-29.08.2022

The rhino symbolizes the magic of Africa's open spaces and wildlife. But sadly, our rhino population is facing for decades a tremendous decrease through poaching, which threatens their existence.

Be part of our Wildlife and Rhino Awareness Tour in which you can support the Rhino Momma Project and be an important part of this special experience.

Together with a conservation team, you will carry out the dehorning of the rhinos as part of the Rhino Momma Project. Rhino dehorning is used to protect rhinos from poaching. The dehorning process does NOT harm the Rhinos. Great care is taken to reduce the stress of the animal. A skilled team of professionals are involved in the task to ensure that the dehorning is done safely and effectively. The tour is not limited to the rhino conservation project. Other highlights are in store for your. Your experienced guide will show you the most beautiful places in Namibia on a partial off-road journey.

No previous off-road experience is required for this tour!

Did you know?

Rhinos are thought to be the second largest animal on land, with the elephant being the largest.

Sadly there are almost only 3 species of Rhinos left. The Black Rhino, the White Rhino (living in Africa) and the Indian Rhino (living in Asia).

The Black Rhino and the White Rhino are the most familiar rhinoceros species. But they are neither black nor white.

But from where does the name Black Rhino and White Rhino come from?

There are different versions of how they got their names:

One plausible explanation is that the word white is coming from the misinterpretation of the Afrikaans word “wyd”, which actually means wide. It is referring to the wide mouth of the White Rhino.

A hypothesis from the 19th century says that the white rhino is a shade or two lighter than its counterpart the Black Rhino, as they are often covered in mud or dust.

Whatever might be true, it is always nice to hear a story behind a name!
