Put on your walking shoes for an incredible day in the unique coastal city of Alesund, Norway, the gateway to the Geiranger Fjord! Experience its charm and history as you experience a fantastic journey. Slow-paced walk to enjoy the sites!
Meet your knowledgeable guide at your Alesund cruise port and learn about the interesting history of Alesund as you explore the town. You will learn interesting history, information, and tales on this slow-paced walk. One of its unique aspects is its architecture. During the night of January 23, 1940, the town was almost completely destroyed by one of the worst fires in Norwegian history. Over the course of 3 years, and thanks to Kaiser Wilhelm I, it was rebuilt in the Art Nouveau style using stone, brick, and mortar. As a result, the colorful houses and buildings with beautiful ornamentation are extremely consistent in appearance.
You will be able to enjoy the charm and beauty of Alesund as you walk along the streets including Skateflukaia, seeing a number of sites of interest including Kongens gate where you will find the narrowest house in town, St. Olavplass square where various concerts are held, Hellebrua bridge that spans the picturesque Brosundet canal, and Svaneapoteket – the pharmacy constructed out of chips of granite and fully restored inside as it was at the turn of the 20th century.
In addition to these sights, you will walk through Bakkegata with its fortresses and spires, see the old wooden building on Molovegen, and the Town Hall. For those who enjoy shopping, you will explore Kipervikstorget, which has numerous specialty stores for arts and crafts, and a market in the square with flowers, fruits, and other items.
There truly is something for everyone on this walking of Alesund! When the time comes to an end, you will return to your Alesund cruise port.
