EpiGuard is a Norwegian medical technology company established in 2015, and we hold top-level expertise with product development and manufacturing. Our medical background ranges from intensive care, infectious diseases, internal medicine, and anesthesiology, through transport medicine. Our first product is the EpiShuttle, which was developed by clinical experts with the first-hand experience in pr
oviding advanced treatment and transportation of patients with highly infectious diseases, including Ebola. We aim to continue to develop and manufacture high-end medical equipment for the safe transport of contagious patients. The EpiShuttle is a single-patient isolation and transport system, designed to provide maximum patient safety and comfort while allowing critical care and treatment to be performed on infectious patients. It increases the protection and safety of the patient but also the healthcare professionals in several settings – on land, by sea, or in flight.

Our CEO Michael Eimstad was in Washington DC last week to learn more about military-sector cooperation between Norway and the USA.
In a meeting-packed week, key highlights included a reception as guest of the Ambassador to the United States, Anniken Krutnes, and engaging in discussions with Norwegian Defense attaché Major General Odd-Harald Hagen Hagen, representatives from the Norwegian Ministry of Defence and FSi.
Additionally, we visited Lockheed Martin representatives in Crystal City, where discussions centered on leveraging the EpiShuttle on their C130 platform.

🔴 EpiShuttle at the center of a collaborative exercise between Germany, Norway and Ireland 🔴
This March the Düsseldorf Regional Health Authorities, the Düsseldorf University Hospital, Fire Department and Düsseldorf Airport, together with DRF Luftrettung, the General German Automobile Club (ADAC), and the Permanent Working Group of Competence and Treatment Centres for high consequence infectious diseases (STAKOB) successfully rehearsed a collaborative infection control exercise.
The exercise involved also Irish and Norwegian counterparts, as the simulation trained users on intra-European transport of a highly infected patient from Ireland to Germany, with the help of highly specialized Norwegian team (NOJAHIP), which is part of the RescEU capacity.
Dr. Max Skorning, Head of the Düsseldorf Health Department, emphasizes: "This exercise is very important for the state capital. High-infection transports are practiced regularly, but this one goes much further. In addition to practical exercises, the focus was also on the interfaces for activation and communication at European level as well as the exchange with the Irish and Norwegian partners.

💡 How are the EpiShuttle's top national users integrating EpiShuttle in their national preparedness systems? 💡
The EpiShuttle enables the cooperation, coordination and interoperability at the core of the UK, Saudi Arabia and Finland's preparedness strategy. These three countries have adopted the EpiShuttle within their national preparedness schemes. By standardizing isolation patient transport with EpiShuttle, various government and civilian agencies are able to better work together in times of crisis.
In the UK the National Ambulance Resilience Unit (NARU), Hazardous Area Response Teams (HART) and Defence Science and Technology Laboratory (DSTL) have incorporated over 30 EpiShuttles in their preparedness schemes and have created dedicated standard operating procedures (SOPs) for working together with EpiShuttle. EpiShuttle has helped the coordination between civilian/military sectors and across the UK.
In Saudi Arabia, the Saudi Ministry of Health and Ministry of Interior have strategically located 70 EpiShuttles over the kingdom at key border crossings to best protect its civilians.
In Finland, the Finnish Hospital University System and Finnish National Emergency Supply Agency have 16 EpiShuttles to bolster their healthcare and CBRN preparedness.

How to Use the EpiShuttle in Positive Pressure?
Recently, FAI Aviation Group transported a patient with a severely weakened immune system who had leukopenia/agranulocytosis, choosing the
EpiShuttle to protect her from infection. EpiShuttle's positive pressure system creates a protective barrier, preventing non-filtered environmental air from entering the unit.

What are the lessons learned from Deployed Medical Healthcare Delivery congress? Military officials from around the world gathered last week in London and discussed their most important responsibility of all - the health and safety of military personnel. One of the areas of concern is how to safely transport soldiers operating in areas affected by outbreaks of highly infectious diseases and CBRNe events. There were a lot of great speakers, including our own Michael who spoke about the importance of being prepared for these situations in terms of quality equipment and training. He also gave a brief demonstration of the EpiShuttle and noted that it is already used by militaries in Oceania, Europe, and North America. The EpiShuttle can be quickly deployed to soldiers in need because of its compatibility with various ambulance vehicles, airplanes and helicopters. It can also be secured using Lufthansa Technik Patient Transport Unit presented by Oliver Thomaschewski. Being prepared is the key to soldiers' safety. How to safely transport infectious and vulnerable patients inside a hospital? Transporting contagious, critically ill or injured patients within the hospital is challenging! It requires careful preparation and the right equipment. To protect the patients and health care professionals from cross-contamination, you need to have procedures in place. When those procedures include the EpiShuttle, transport is safe and easy for everyone. Key advantages are: ⭕️ no need to wear full #PPE during transport ⭕️ the rooms and hallways used for transport will not get contaminated ⭕️ no need to shut down the wards and hallways used for transport. EpiShuttle is also used for the transport of immunocompromised patients. In this case, the vulnerable patient is safe from the outside environment due to sealed transparent hard-top and ventilation system inside the unit. In the ongoing pandemic, it is crucial to secure safety of the guests and crew members on board. If the outbreak emerges, the disease has to be contained very quickly. The EpiShuttle is designed specifically for these types of diseases. If a passenger gets infected the risk of spreading the infection is drastically minimized if the person is isolated and transported inside the unit. What about negative pressure? Last week we talked about positive pressure and how it protects the patient inside. This week we will show you how positive pressure works and who does it protect. Air ventilation system inside the EpiShuttle generates more than 15 air exchanges per hour to ensure maximum patient comfort and safety. When in negative pressure mode, the system generates negative pressure relative to the environment. The air flow goes in through the inlet filters at the head end, and out through the outlet filters at the foot end. This operation mode prevents the contaminated air to escape the unit protecting the healthcare professionals outside. Negative pressure is proven to be effective with highly infectious diseases like SARS, Ebola, and also stopping the spread of Coronavirus infected patients. What is positive pressure? How does it protect patients? A part of EpiShuttles' double protection system is the positive pressure mode. It stops the contaminated air from the environment to enter the unit keeping the patient fully protected. All air particles inside are filtered by A2P3 filters and cleared from any chemical or biological toxins. What happens when a patient is immunocompromised or wounded? According to CDC having a weakened immune system can make a person more likely to get severely ill from infections. The same goes for wounded patients like burn victims.
