Blueye has its roots in the highly renowned Centre for Autonomous Marine Operations and Systems (AMOS) at NTNU in Norway. Exceptional user experience and attractiveness have been the overarching design goals since the beginning. Together with world-leading marine engineers and award

-winning industrial designers, we have in three years created what we strongly believe is the world’s best underwater drone, the Blueye Pioneer. Erik Dyrkoren was working on the idea behind Blueye at Marintek and NTNU Amos where he met Martin Ludvigsen, Professor of Underwater Technology at NTNU. Together with students, they developed what came to be the first prototype. During the first testing of the prototype on board NTNU's research vessel Gunnerus, they met Christine Spiten, who was on a field study for her Master's thesis on underwater drones. They quickly discovered that they had a shared vision and wanted to make underwater exploration more available. On the road to creating the company Erik, Martin and Christine connected with angel investor Erik Haugane (now chairman of the board) and together they founded Blueye Robotics in June 2015. Today, the Blueye Team consists of over 20 dedicated experts from different countries, working on many levels of software, robotics, mechanical- and industrial design, underwater technology, graphical design and business development.

This year, the internship program has offered a range of exciting projects 🙌

The summer interns are involved in testing the Blueye ROVs, often heading out with the Blueye boat to visit the waters around Trondheim. They have explored areas such as Ilsvika and Korsvika, where they have used ROVs to dive down and examine airplanes and shipwrecks lying on the ocean floor. 🌊🐟

Når sjøen blir varmere, øker utfordringen med lakselus, noe som kan føre til sykdom og skader på fisken. Hvordan håndterer oppdretterne dette? Vi har sett nærmere på avlusningsmetodene og hvordan fiskehelsen ivaretas ved hjelp av Blueye ROVer. 🐟

I Norge benyttes fem metoder for avlusning: termisk avlusning, mekanisk avlusning, ferskvann i brønnbåt, ferskvannslokk i m**d med skjørt og kjemisk avlusning. I tillegg brukes ROVen for å overvåke fiskevelferd og utstyr i m**dene. ROVene gir viktig innsikt under og etter avlusningen, og bidrar til å forhindre skader på nota.

Noble Corporation is changing the game in offshore drilling! 🚀

With the Blueye X3 ROV, they completed 19 ballast tank inspections in just two days, cutting costs and boosting safety.

Exciting Collaboration with Maritime Robotics! 🤝

Recently, MR completed a trial focused on improving maritime security through the integration of advanced technologies and strategic collaboration.

This trial proved how combining satellite imaging, aerial support, and Unmanned Surface Vehicles (USVs) can provide an effective surveillance and monitoring system.

Uventet funn under forskningsprosjekt 🌊

Forskere for Norsk institutt for naturforskning (Nina), Johanna Järnegren og Silje Margrethe Nessjø Larsen, oppdaget i går menneskelige levninger under en inspeksjon i Savalen med Blueye ROV.

Først trodde forskerne at det var en søppelsekk, men det viste seg å være en regnfrakk med beinrester. ROVen de brukte var utstyrt med laser og subsonos for nøyaktig posisjonering og størrelsesmåling av funnet.

Nå er politiet involvert og levningene er sendt til Rettsmedisinsk institutt for identifisering. Forskerne håper funnet kan bringe klarhet og svar til de pårørende. 💔

A dive into technology and innovation with Blueye's summer project 🐟

Welcome our summer interns! 🧑‍🎓☀️

This year, they will work on further developing a GPS receiver for our ROVs. Additionally, they will conduct market analyses, manage social media, and assist with developing and with testing!

Amund Godal and Håvard Syslak will mainly be responsible for the electronic and mechanical aspects 📡🔩, while Sofie Gloppen and Sigrid Walseth will be on the commercial team and will be taking care of the research and marketing part of the project⭐️

At Blueye, each day brings its own share of adventures!🌊

One such incident occurred this January when we observed the challenges faced by the team at Trondheim Havn while breaking ice with one of their tugboats. Unfortunately, during the process, a collision at the boat's rear end led to the loss of a fender.⛴️

In response, Trond sprang into action, utilizing the Blueye X3 with the Reach Alpha gripper to locate and retrieve the lost fender. 🤖

But was the recovery mission as straightforward as it seems?

The Blueye Team believes that by empowering people to view, explore and learn about the ocean, people will connect with it and care for it too. This is the reason why the Blueye founders set out on the mission to create and to share the ultimate underwater experience through great product design. Our wish is to let anyone enter the ocean and take part in the element we all come from.

We developed the first underwater drone prototype in only 10 weeks - just in time for it's first expedition across the Atlantic Sea on a sailboat sailing from Africa to Brazil with Co-Founder Christine Spiten to map marine litter and micro-plastics.

It took a little over three years of development and seven iterations before the first drones came off the assembly line and were shipped to the first customers. At which time, we had already received over 600 pre-orders from customers worldwide.

All design and development of the two underwater drones, the Blueye Pioneer and the Blueye Pro, have taken place in Trondheim, Norway. It is designed for optimal performance in all conditions, from the Arctic oceans to tropical waters, and all the way down to over 300 m below the surface.
