Nepal Food Series - Momo

Momo is to Nepal what pizza is to Italy, and is available in almost every restaurant, hotel, and even households, of Nepal.

The dish is prepared from wheat flour, vegetable oil, chopped onion, garlic, sesame, green chilies, tomatoes, meat, mustard powder, ginger juice and a blend of Nepalese herbal spices that add a bit of uniqueness and originality. Momos can be termed as a special type of dumpling and have become part of the Nepalese food habit and culture.

East Nepal Travel Series - Everest Region

The Everest region of Nepal is famous around the world for its treks and stunning natural beauty. Thousands of trekkers and travelers join expeditions to the summit of the world every year. The famous Everest Base Camp (EBC) trek, which begins from Lukla, offers some of the most breathtaking views despite being one of the toughest treks.
The Sagarmatha National Park, located in the Khumbu region, is home to rare species of wildlife like the snow leopard, musk deer, and red panda. The region is also renowned for the highest mountain in the world, Mt. Everest. Namche Bazaar, also known as the Sherpa capital, has facilities such as ATMs, bakeries and even the world’s highest bar.
You can get to Lukla from Kathmandu by a 25-minute flight. Alternatively, you can fly to Phaplu airport, near the headquarters of Solukhumbu district, and take the Junbesi trekking route to Lukla. You can also reach Junbesi by boarding a mini-bus which will take you about 10-12 hours.

Tilicho Lake is a lake located in the Manang district of Nepal, 55 kilometres (34 mi) as the crow flies from the city of Pokhara. It is situated at an altitude of 4,919 metres (16,138 ft) in the Annapurna range of the Himalayas and is sometimes called the highest lake for its size in the world, even though there are lakes at higher altitude even in Nepal, and larger, higher lakes in Tibet.[1] Another source lists the altitude of Lake Tilicho as being 4,949 metres (16,237 ft).
According to the Nepali Department of Hydrology & Meteorology (2003), no aquatic organism has been recorded in the lake.[citation needed]
Tilicho Lake is the destination of one of the most popular side hikes of the Annapurna Circuit trek. The hike takes additional 3–4 days. No camping is required, as new lodges have been built between Manang and the lake. The final approach to the lake is done in a day hike from the lodge at Tilicho Base Camp.
Trekkers attempting the Annapurna Circuit route usually cross the watershed between Manang and Kali Gandaki valleys over the 5416 meters high Thorong La pass. The alternate route, skirting Tilicho Lake from the north, has been gaining popularity. This route is more demanding and requires at least one night of camping. There are no teahouses or lodges past the Tilicho Base Camp lodge some kilometers east of the lake and the next village of Thini Gaon in the Kali Gandaki valley. Most groups spend two nights between these places. There are two passes leading to Thini Gaon and Jomsom; Mesokanto La and Tilicho North pass known also as Tilicho "Tourist pass". These routes via Tilicho Lake are more often closed by snow than the higher Thorong La.[citation needed]
Tilicho Lake was the site of one of the highest ever altitude scuba dives. A Russian diving team, consisting of Andrei Andryushin, Denis Bakin, and Maxim Gresko, conducted a scuba dive in the lake in 2000.

Pathibhara Temple Nepal - Taplejung
Since time immemorial, Pathibhara Pilgrim Tour has fascinated the Hindu Nepalese in a usual way as any other famous pilgrim tour attracts its devotees. Pathibhara is a female deity, who fulfills the wish of a devotee. Hundreds of devotees flock to Pathibhara every day, and in the festive season, this place is packed with people, who have come from different parts of Nepal, as well as from India.

From the religious point of view, Pathibhara will have a significant place in the hearts of the Nepalese because it represents female Shakti, that is, the power of a female goddess. To please her, devotees offer the sacrifice of animals. This may be disturbing to outsiders, but the sacrifice of animals is looked with a certain degree of flexibility by the Hindu community.

Prior to seeing this, you will find Pathibhara region located in the most beautiful area in the eastern Nepal, blessed with spectacular landscape and Himalayan peaks, scaling to 7000 m, in the midst of a wide variety of floras, including different species of rhododendrons.

Pathibhara Pilgrim Tour will also create an opportunity for your searching eye to gaze on the mountain that is known by the name of Kanchenjunga, the world’s third highest mountain. And it is best to do this tour in March, April, May, September, October, November, and December. You will also know about the outline of the culture of Limbu as you pass through the villages and spend your nights. The monasteries that you visit in Olangchung Gola are beautiful, and the waterfall that you see at Sawa and the pond of Timbung are awe-inspiring. The eco-system of this region has been well-preserved, and you will also find it intact as you see different species of birds. Walking in this region is exciting.

At the confluence of the Roshi and Punyamati rivers, and believed to be situated on one single rock, is a historical Newar town that is one of the oldest in the Kathmandu valley. Most of the temples, monuments, and satals (community shelters) are made of terra-cotta and beautifully carved wooden columns. The temples have gilded roofs and wide courtyards, and the remnants of the ancient durbar square are still present in the town centre. Located 32 km south east of the capital, this medieval town is an important cultural site in Nepal, perhaps the most important after Kathmandu, Patan, and Bhaktapur. A 15-minute climb north-east takes you to Gorakhnath Hill (2000 ft), from where one gets an overall view of the fish-shaped town as well as panoramic views of the Himalayas.

The town is chock-a-block with temples and other religious sites. Temples are predominant of course, with there being more than 40 temples dedicated to various deities spread around the small one-kilometer town. There are a half dozen or so stupas and three dyochhens (communal houses in which a deity idol resides in the upper room) along with one bahal (Buddhist shrine). In line with its rich cultural heritage, the small town also has plenty of patis, or public resting places, three dabalis (platform for theatrical shows), and six stone water spouts known as dhunge dharas, besides three public squares known as chowks. One of the largest temples is the three-storied temple of Indreshwar Mahadev which stands at the center of a courtyard paved with brick. Its architecture is an excellent example of Newari craftsmanship as are those of Krishna Temple, Unmata Bhairav Temple, and Ahilya Temple situated nearby in the same courtyard. Other temples of note are the 17th century temple of Brahmayani and the Krishna Narayan Temple at the Triveni Ghat.
