( COVID19)
An epidemic started from a small city of China became a global pandemic of these days. In the beginning of December 2019, in the region of Wuhan, China, a new (“novel”) Coronavirus began appearing in human beings which was named Covid 19, a short form of “Coronavirus disease of 2019.This new virus spreads very quickly between people because no one on the earth has immunity power against Covid-19. While it was initially seen to be an epidemic in China, the virus spread worldwide within months. The WHO declared Covid-19 a pandemic in March, and by the middle of April, the virus took over a hundred thousand human lives and over million are infected. The entire world is fighting against Covid 19 by quarantining humans. Many researchers are working very hard to develop medicines, vaccines against this novel virus.
Looking back to the global history, we have already faced numerous pandemics. Spanish flu of 1918, other flues like SARS and MERS, HIV, Cholera outbreaks etc. are some examples. Talking about Nepal, we have uncountable experiences of different disasters including epidemics, still we are caught by this novel virus fortunately there in no deaths till the date but infected rate is increasing day by day which may create huge crisis in Nepal. Nepal government took early decision to lock down the country which kept many people corona negative. Though, people in border line are in trouble, day to day workers are living in different crisis, there is no option of lockdown. So, the local leaders, volunteers, governmental officers and every individual should take initiative to manage such problems from their level of capacity to success lockdown. Nepal could be in green zone of Covid 19 if people came from abroad were kept in quarantine earlier. Which is criticism by people all over the world against their government even in developed countries, but criticism is not the solution. Now we have to see forward to stop positive cases. We every individual can help to stop increasing numbers of positive cases by staying home, taking care in personal hygiene, eating healthy, increasing immune system and being honest if recently travelled foreign countries. Your small initiation towards prevention can save your family, friends and many more lives.
Along with this global pandemic different crisis appeared in the world. Tourism hospitality business, manufacturing, aviation business, stock markets etc are badly impacted. Some researchers predict on their research paper that world might face worst crisis than economic crisis of 2008. More than million and fifty people already lost their job. Unemployment rate is in no doubt to increase. Nepal was already facing different problems; this crisis may create more trouble. On the other hand crisis is an opportunity if we handle it in better way. So, why not every individual start thinking about how to run our life after lock down. There is possibility to water in dry lands again and grow some greeneries again, means why not to return in agricultural business, promote traditional herbs medicines, start local production of clothing, food, cosmetics etc. During lock down, Nepal started producing sanitizer gel and mask in Nepal. This shows that it is not impossible. Then, why not to start something creative! Every individual can inspire self and other to do something in our own land staying in home and maintaining social distance can prevent corona virus in the time of lock down and supporting each other in different creative works can prevent coming economic crisis.

Nepal might not suffer severely by this global pandemic which is fortunate but lessons learned by this crisis have to remember, remind and implement in the future. A term called, ‘Historical amnesia’ loss of memory which is a biggest problem of us, shouldn’t be repeated again. We might get economic crisis, unemployment, food scarcity and different other crisis but we can fight against it. Someone very positive person wrote somewhere that, “you never know how strong you are until being strong is only choice you have”. Relating this statement in current situation Nepal can fight against Covid 19 and also many future crises, if we believe in self and start a goal to be self sufficient/ self dependent. Which might be little difficult but not impossible. Statistics showed that, Nepal imported more than two billion Rs. worth agriculture and livestock products in the fiscal year 018/019. If we would be able to reduce only one ton of rice by one individual, it would save millions Rs.
Human beings started their journey of development form Old Stone Age to this modern technological world. First and second world war and different internal, external conflicts all over the world took place in the history; only to obtain power. Some writer state in their paper that “novel corona virus appears as third world war”, now the entire world is putting their power together to fight against this war. This situation gave different lessons about unity, saving the nature, loving self and many more to this human world and also reminded that, Nature has created Humans so, do not think human have the super power. However humans have very strong ego which might not accept the truth but if you have that ego a bit lesser, start loving: nature, self, your beloved ones and think that the entire world including 8.7 million species are your family. Instead of complaining about not being able to hang out with your friends, not having your favorite foods, find different ways to stay connected with all those people you love. Talk about what good things you can to together to be happy and to make other happy. Be thankful to those security staffs, medical staffs, delivery persons and cleaners working for you keeping their lives in risks. Pray for better situation and stay positive.
Thank you
