MUKTNATH DARSAN TOUR PACAKGE
Introduction: Muktinath means "Lord of Salvation", is a sacred place both for Hindus and Buddhists located in Muktinath Valley at an altitude of 3,710 meters at the foot of the Thorong La mountain pass (part of the Himalayas), Mustang District in the north-central part of Nepal and it is about 110 Km from Pokhara and 20 Km northeast of Jomsom. Within Hinduism, it is called the sacred place “Mukti Kshetra" which means the "place of liberation or moksha". Each year it witnesses thousands of devotees flocking for worship in a hope to receive moksha (salvation) from the cycle of birth and rebirth. This temple is considered to be the 105th among the available 108 Divya Desam, which are considered sacred by the Sri Vaishnava Cult. The ancient name of this place in Sri Vaishnava literature, before Buddhist origin, is Thiru Saligramam. This houses the saligrama shila considered to be the naturally available le form of Sriman Narayana-the Hindu Godhead. It is also one of the 51 Shakti Peethams. The Buddhists call it Chumig Gyatsa, which in Tibetan means ‘Hundred Waters'. Although the temple is has a Vaishnava origin, it is also revered in Buddhism. It is a gateway to Mustang from Manang in the famous Annapurna Circuit Trek route. The holy shrine at Muktinath is in a grove of trees and includes a Buddhist Gompa and the pagoda style temple of Vishnu Temple, Containing an Image of Vishnu. The Hindus call it Muktichhetra (Place of salvation) is one of the four religious sites. Many Shaligrams (Ammonite) found here are considered by Hindu as an incarnation of Lord Vishnu and worship them. According to Hindu Myth lord Vishnu turned into Shaligram because of Brinda’s Curse.
Attractions at Muktinath
K***a: In front of Muktinath temple there are 2 K***a (Water pond), the name of Laxmi Saraswati K***a, it called also Mukti K***a. Where holy dip is believed it can wash away negative karma, the results of one's past negative actions.
Jwala Mai Temple: A little below the Muktinath Temple you can see the Tibetan style Jwala Mai Temple. This Temple is famous for the water that it issues from a rock inside it. Inside this Temple behind a tattered curtain, are small natural gas jest that produces Continuously burning flame, the Jwala Mai Temple has a spring and there are three eternal flames “Holy flame from soil”, “Holy flame from rock” and “Holy flame from water” fed by natural gas. Two flames are continuously burning. The Hindu believes that this miracle of fire lighting was an offering made by Brahma himself, (the creator of the universe set water on fire. Hindus worship the fire as Jwala Mai (Lit. Goddess of fire). The Buddhists believe that Padmasambhava, the great Indian master who inducted Ta***ic Vajrayana Buddhism in Tibet, meditated at this place. The Buddhist living will show footprints which they say are those of the great master. They called it Dhola Mebar Gompa.
Mukti Dhara: Around the temple is a wall from the temple in which there is 108 waterspouts (Dhara) name of “Muktidhara”. The 108 faucets in the cast in the shape of bulls' heads, pour fourth-sacred water closely arranged in a semi-circle with a gap of hardly a foot between the faucets, at a height of seven feet. The water from the Gandaki River continuously flowing through the mouth of the bull. Pilgrims who visit the temple take a holy bath in each of these spouts. But as the water is ice cold it requires burning desire and courage to take a holy bath here. Hindu devotees take bath under chilled water of 108 waterspouts “Muktidhara” believing that it brings them salvation. It is also believed that the deity was originated from Jumla, the far western part of Nepal.
Mharme Lha Khang Gompa: After completing prayer and puja at the temple a visit to Mharme Lha Khang Gomba is situated to the North of Muktinath Temple. Mharme Lha Khang is translated as thousand holy lamps. As this monastery dedicated to Guru Rimpoche (Padmasambhava) with his huge clay image is placed center of the altar along with bon deities: red Trakpo at the right side and blue singe Doma at the left side. Since Singe doma is a lion-headed deity, Hindu worships as Narasimha and the name of Monastery Narsingha Gompa.
Gomba Samba: This is a monastery of Tibetan origin. Legend has it that the Syandol Lama, a monk from Tibet founded this monastery. This was used as a hostel for monks before collapsed and the people of Khinga and Jharkot later restored it. The main deities monasteries are Sakyamuni, Chingresig, and Guru Rimpoche. The monastery is situated at the left from the entrance gate of the Muktinath temple complex, which would be worth it.
Swaminarayan: A Hindu Guru by the name of Lord Shri Swaminarayan is generally associated with the Temple of Muktinath. Also known as a Satguru of Sabij Yoga, towards the end of the 18th century he practiced severe penance in Muktinath for two and a half months and attained the highest degree of proficiency in Nishkamvrat. In 2003 his followers funded the new wall around Muktinath and raised a small monument for him at Muktinath.
Shaligram: Another attraction for the pilgrimage is the River kali Gandaki from where one can collect fossils of the Jurassic age. You can also buy these fossils from the locals. Shaligram, a black stone fossil if found, is considered sacred and is kept in the pooja (prayer) room in the house. It is supposed to be a symbol of Lord Vishnu. Gloriously described in Puranas as Krishnagandaki (Black Gandaki) as well as Chakranadi, and worshipped as one of the holiest rivers, Krishnagandaki consists of seven Gandaki rivers supposed to have sprung from the cheek (Gandasthal) of Lord Vishnu.
Around Places:
The Muktinath valley has seven historic famous places Putak, Jhong, Chhyokhar, Purang Jharkot, and Khinga. Ranipauwa (Lit.Queen pilgrims hostel the name of Subarna Prabha Devi) is a new settlement village founded by the people of Purang. There are many monasteries and Gompa around the Muktinath temple.

General Information
How to go there:
Only those who are willing to undergo physical discomfort and rigor can go to Muktinath. Above all, one should have the Grace of the Lord to visit Muktinath. The convenient routes to Muktinath from India are: via Gorakhpur, Sonauli, Bhairawa, and Pokhara, the last big town on the way to Muktinath; via Raxaul, Birgunj, and Pokhara or Darjeeling, Siliguri, Kakar Bhitta and Pokhara.
There are many ways to reach Muktinath. Either take a flight from Pokhara to Jomsom then hike for 7-8 hours from Jomsom or trek from Pokhara through Kali-Gandaki valley, it takes 7/8 days. There has a trekking route one of the famous treks name Muktinath.
Nowadays the Bus & Jeep Services are available from Pokhara to Jomsom via Beni, Ghasa, Tato pani, Tukuche, Marfa, it takes a time about 8-9 hrs. There are only 4 WD jeep services after the Jomsom to Ranipauwa near Muktinath, it takes 1.30 hrs. The road is unpaved after Beni to Jomsom & Muktinath through the Kaligandaki river bank. & Hill area.
The private helicopter services are available from Pokhara & Kathmandu. The schedule flights are available from Pokhara to Jomsom, The sight of the bewildering Annapurna and Dhaulagiri ranges will enchant you as you approach towards Pokhara Valley by air or surface. The next morning when you discover the clear sky and views of the mountain, you then discover you are on your special journey to the Muktinath

Starting From Pokhara to Jomsom:
By Flight: Pokhara to Jomsom by air in about 30 minutes
By Trek: Pokhara to Nayapool by vehicle then do the 7/8 days trek to Jomsom,
By transport: Pokhara to Jomsom by Jeep & bus in about 10-11 hrs via Beni, Ghasa, Marfa.
Starting from Jomsom To Muktinath
By treks: Walk to Kagbeni to Jharkot to Muktinath in about 7-8 hours.
By Transport: Go by Jeep in about 1.30 hrs.
By Horse: Go by a local rented horse in about 5 to 6 hrs.
By Helicopter:
1. Kathmandu to Muktinath in about 1.30 hrs
2. Pokhara to Muktinath in about 45 minutes
A helicopter to visit Muktinath from March to October is suitable. By treks to visit from April to October is preferable

Note: Nowadays the big Helicopter services are not available on a sharing basis in Pokhara, It is available only small private helicopter on a Charter basis. So we suggest you go from Pokhara to Jomsom to Pokhara by flight then Jomsom to Muktinath to Jomsom by Jeep. Likewise, except for pilgrimage tours, the trips will be very memorable, Adventure & enjoyable for pilgrims.
Climate
Muktinath and its high valley are located in the Mustang Bhote region. The climate and landscape here are similar to those of the Tibetan Plateau since it is situated in the rain shadow of the Greater Himalayas. The changes in climate from warm to cold take you to the sacred shrine of Muktinath in Mustang district. Flowing through the region from north to south and forming deep gorges is the Kali Gandaki river. The temperature in summer (March to August) hovers between a Maximum of 16 to 18 degrees Celsius and a minimum of 6 to 8 Degree Celsius. At the beginning of winter (September to November) the temperature fluctuates between 14 to 16 degrees Celsius and 0 to 4 degrees Celsius. In the winter (December and January) the maximum temperature will be 4 to 6 degrees Celsius and minimum 0 to -8 degree Celsius. After February and before November the temperature will be good.
When you arrive at Jomsom by plane you are at 2700 meters while you came from Pokhara at 800 meters (Kathmandu is about 1500 meters). Muktinath is at 3800 meters. We strongly recommend that you stay one night in Jomsom to prevent high altitude sickness instead of walking to Muktinath the very same day if you arrive by flight. An alternative is, you walk for three hours to Kagbeni at 2900 meters and stay there for a night. The next day we recommend you sleep in Jhargot at 3400 meters (which is 45 minutes before Muktinath-Chumig Gyatsa). The high altitude landscapes made for unique and scenic environments. The climate was cold and the land was dry.
Season:
The most suitable time to visit Muktinath from March to May & September to October, this month is the best time to visit Muktinath is a weather condition. Sometimes the flights can be cancel due to foggy & cloudy weather but it will be cleared within a day. After October there will be cold but can travel in November & February. December and January are diehard; season here will be snowfall in the all of area more than 2 to 6 ft. It is not possible to travel.
June to August is raining season but it is possible to travel if the weather will not bad. Normally the flight services are canceled due to bad weather on rainy season till uncertain days and the Jeep service are closed due to bad road condition, As the weather conditions would not be safe enough to travel on Rainy season & cold season but people are traveling on the rainy season and cold season
Clothing:
Days are relatively warm; especially when there is no wind in the late morning. The appropriate clothing as per the travel period (temperature) and good walking shoes for rocky and uneven paths are highly recommended. A walking stick would help for those who need support.
We suggest you take normal warm clothes. Light warm jacket, woolen sweater, warm T-Shirts, comfortable shoes, trousers, and cotton pants are enough for this trip. We recommended you to bring down jacket for the winter

Accommodation
There are enough Hotels and lodges near Muktinath in Jharkot and Ranipauwa. Hotels and lodges are fine there. Some Hotels have solar-heated hot showers and provide rooms with attached bath. Also, the local restaurant is available there. They provide good food. There are no hotels and the temple committee does not allow camping around the Muktinath temple area.

STD /ISD telephone services are available in Ranipauwa and Jharkot. Health post and Post office in Jharkot. Police station, ACAP tourist information center, and Safe drinking water station at Ranipauwa. There are available Electricity facilities also.
Rule & Regulation
Muktinath lies in the Annapurna conservation area where an entry fee is required. Entry fees can be obtained from Kathmandu and Pokhara. A copy of the passport and 2 copies of passport size photos are required while applying for the permit.
The ACAP fee in person for Indians and others SAARC nationals Rs. 200.00 per Person and The other foreign nationals Rs. 2000.00 per person to at the above mentioned designated place. An equal extra fee (Rs. 400.00 and Rs. 4000.00 ) will be levied if permits are issued from the field check post. The Permit is non-refundable, non-transferable, and is valid for a single entry. Children below 10 yrs. need not entry fee.

Day 02: Kathmandu Sightseeing
After Breakfast, you will proceed to Kathmandu Sightseeing places to visit. Budhanikantha is a place of pilgrimage for all Hindus, is sleeping Vishnu, a colossal statue of lord Vishnu reclining on a bed of snakes on Water pond. So is called Jal Narayan also. And Krishna Temple-Built in the seventeenth century, the temple of Lord Krishna holds a commanding position in the palace complex of Patan - 5/6 hrs and back to the hotel, free time for the individual program. Day 03: Kathmandu - Pokhara

Day 04: Pokhara - Jomsom - Muktinath- Jomsom
After breakfast, transfer to Airport flies from Pokhara to Jomsom-2700 M. by Schedule flight. Arrival at Jomsom Transfer to Hotel immediately walk to Jeep stand (20 Min.) we will transfer you to Muktinath by Jeep (2.30 Hrs.), On the way you will enjoy to see the scenery of natural beauty places, George of Gandaki River, Monastry & Kagbeni, This is famous for the Holy bath point of river Gandaki which is 8 Km from Jomsom You should go there to leave inside the main road, where people will do funeral ceremony (Shraddha) of their past parents, where every stone represents of Shaligram, you can pick here. Then drive to Muktinath, Arrival at Ranipauwa 3710 Mtr. walks to Muktinath temple 3800 Mtr. /40 Min., If you could not walk where you can hire a pony till the Main entrance of Muktinath compound, it takes 10 min by motorbike, arrives in the temple, has a holy bath on 108 waterspouts "Muktidhara" & in front of the Temple there is 2 K***a, is calledMuktikunda, After having darshan and worship to Muktinath god, walk to Jwalamai Temple and walk back to Ranipauwa and drive back to Jomsom by Jeep (2.30 hrs), Arrival Jomsom. Early in the morning go for Sunrise from Sarangkot by Private vehicle, This place is situated in 1592 m from sea level, from here you will see the Fist-tail, Dhaulagiri, Nilgiri, Lamjung Himal, Mt. Annapurna I, II are in the Annapurna range and other mountains, you feel like touch the mountain from here, drive back to the hotel, after breakfast drive/Fly back to Kathmandu, Arrival Kathmandu, transfer to Hotel, overnight.

Day 03: Jomsom - Muktinath -Jomsom
Early Breakfast drive to Ranipauwa near Muktinath 20 km / 2.30 hrs. Arrival at Ranipauwa walks to Muktinath temple 40 Min. It takes 10 min if you go by motorbike (2 wheeler) to the main entrance of the temple, arrive at the temple, have a holy bath on 108 waterspouts & 2 K***a, Have darshan and worship to Muktinath god walk to Jwalamai Temple and walk back to Ranipauwa and drive back to Jomsom by Jeep (2.30 hrs), Arrival Jomsom. Walk back to Hotel Overnight at Jomsom.
Day 04: Jomsom - Pokhara
