Nepal's Supreme Court has ordered the government to limit the number of climbers on Everest. It also bans helicopters above base camp on all its mountains.

On the morning of 11 April 2024, I enjoyed a one-hour nature walk before heading toward Kathmandu in the afternoon. I love rhododendron flowers, but everything was beautiful, and so luring that I can't describe it here. I returned to Kathmandu yesterday, 12 April 2024, and am sharing these videos today.

Omsala Mani Dance is a religious dance in the Sherpa community. Participants circumambulate clockwise in a group and pay homage to the god. Such dances are celebrated thrice a year around. However, the Omsala Mani Dance is celebrated and danced in different ways throughout the Himalayas, Nepal, Tibet, and Bhutan.

I enjoyed the inspiring views with my eyes on several occasions while travelling with my brotherly friend David R. Gluns to Peekye. Knowing my love for sunset views with a similar reflection in the countless horizons, my friend David Gluns helped me to bring this Logo. Marian Lowe, a friend of David Gluns, created this Logo design for us in Nelson, Canada. Our heartiest thanks to her, and it will live forever.

Condolences

The Happy Feet Mountaineers team would like to pay their respect to Albert (Bert) Walter Port, who passed away on April 6, 2023, at the age of 90. In 2017 at 85 years, Bert was one of the eldest members to accomplish a part of the Great Himalayan Trail, Jumla to Upper Dolpo, one of the Hardest Treks in Nepal, along with 10 other members led by David Gluns from Nelson, Canada. We honour Bert as our role model on how to live and grow old......our condolences to this great person.

Attached is a photograph of Bert taken at Dolpo, the itinerary of the trek he did at 85 years, involving several above 5000-metre passes, one night's sleep at 5536 metres, and memories of Bert's Life! Amazing!

Nepal is no longer allowing solo trekkers.

Nepal is no longer allowing solo trekkers in the high-altitude regions. The government of Nepal decided on March 4, 2023, to make it mandatory to hire government-licensed guides for any trekking in the Nepal Himalayas Starting April 1, 2023. The move is for the security of all travellers to the country amidst the increasing loosing and deaths of solo/independent trekkers without guides.

This move is surely not good for those who prefer to travel independently and economically. Still, I am sure it will save many such travellers' lives and help to job opportunities for many.

Travel Alert
We are sorry to all our guest trekking in the various parts of Nepal who suffer rain, snow and cloudy weather caused by an uncertain cyclonic circulation on the Bay of Bengal. The mid-west, east and far-east Nepal are badly affected. The southern lowlands and mid-hill regions have been under the rain for 3-days (from the 3rd of October 2022), and the high grounds above 4400 metres are snowing. It may remain rainy and snowy until Wednesday (19th of October 2022), and we alert all to take safety measures and a safety time margin. Domestic flights are fully disrupted, and road transportation may also disrupt due to rain and landslides.

I just got a call from Upper Dolpo, and it has been snowing since 05 October and continues.

In December 2014 I got an opportunity to make a short trek with my friend David Gluns. David Gluns has been a trek leader since 1990 and has trekked in most regions of Nepal. When not trekking he works as a professional photographer working for numerous magazines and commercial clients. On the 6th of December, we stopped for an overnight at Ngohur, which lies 3 hours below the Peekye lookout. He shot photos of the sunset from our lodge and I took a video of him taking photos from my S3 mobile. I have shared this unedited video of that moment as a memory.

Travel Notice
Dear all, Greetings from Kathmandu. The Government of Nepal has lifted the ban on arrival visas for tourists, which were imposed from March 2020. According to the Government of Nepal, foreigners who have completed vaccination against covid will now receive an on-arrival visa. Now, tourists visiting Nepal have to abide by the following conditions.

1. Vaccination course against COVID-19 completed a minimum of 14 days before entering Nepal.

2. Report of a negative covid test within 72 hours of being checked in on the flight to Nepal.

3. A proof of hotel booking.
4. The Government of Nepal may be taking an antigen test at the entry point of immigration in Nepal. If the antigen test is taken then one cannot be denied.

5. If the COVID-19 is tested positive in the on-arrival antigen test at the immigration entry point, it is mandatory to stay isolated specified by the Ministry of Health or in a hospital at one's expense until the report gets negative.

NOTE: If one does not see any signs or symptoms of COVID-19 while entering Nepal, all will be allowed to go to their destinations without interference.

We are hopeful that this decision will help prepare for the 2022 Nepal tour, treks and mountaineering activities even if it is not helpful for those who want to visit Nepal in autumn 2021, as it is too late to lift the ban imposed by Nepal government. Nepal Changes Tourist Arrival Rule
The Nepal Government has changed the previous decision of requiring the 7-days hotel stay in Kathmandu, as quarantine, and a pre-arrival visa obtained from Nepal Consulate. The current decision allows the tourist to travel out of the capital city at any day and time and the visa can be applied on arrival at the immigration.

The following are the requirement:
1. PCR Negative report of minimum 72-hours before boarding the flight to Nepal.
2. A PCR test, PCR negative result, before starting the tour/trek into the country. The swab gets collected from the hotel and requires to pay 2000 Nepalese rupees (Approx.17U$D).

Nepal Opens to Tourism Starting 17 October 2020
Nepal has decided to open the international flights and transport, including the incoming tourists, from 17th of October 2020. The tourist travelling to Nepal require to make PCR check-ups, at least 72-hours before catching the flight to Nepal and bring the PCR negative report, certified by the doctor or hospital, along with the traveller. Currently, all tourist entering into the country requires to maintain seven days hotel-stay as quarantine and recheck the PCR before starting the travel. The government is also trying to reduce the hotel quarantine to 72-hours but not yet decided from the cabinet.

Nepal is a safe place for trekking and mountaineering tourist activities. The world-famous trekking and climbing regions such as Annapurna, Everest, Langtang, Manaslu, Mustang, Kanchenjunga and Dolpo are still COVID-19-virus-nil and in which social distancing get automatically maintained due to mountainous region and the low population density.

The internal transport and flights have been resumed to normal and all tourist related hotels, resorts and offices are open, maintaining the current situational safety guidelines.
