Last week we saw our first Oystercatcher chicks for the Summer and a nice flock of Godwits and Knots roosting on the outer beach

This Rainbow was a nice start to the tour yesterday. It followed us almost all of the way to the Lighthouse.

The bird with it's mouth open is a baby Caspian Tern wanting food.
The one with the black cap is a parent on guard duty while the other parent is catching a fish for the juvenile. This is the fist baby Caspian I have been able to photograph this Summer.
Caspian Terns, or Taranui, nest on the shelly banks beyond the Lighthouse at Farewell Spit. They mate for life. Because one good Tern deserves another...
