Save the banded dottereĺ now. It costs nothing. By keep our dogs under good control on the beach and exercising them else where over the dotterel breeding period, we give our grandchildren a chance to see these little guys. Cats are also dynamite for nesting birds. Our little Tiddles can be wiping out an entire colony's offspring at night and we don't even know it! Keeping cats inside at night keeps them safe from feral Tom's and other dangers. If we must drive on the beach, doing so below high time mark over the breeding period means we are not accidentally running over their nests and young which are virtually invisible. The breeding period is September to Feburary inclusive. Thank you for caring enough to read this post..

We reckon we're doing a good job with our native species, but what about this bird?

We had the privilege of spending an afternoon at Nigel and Mish Clark's inspiring and beautiful conservation property in the Boon Valley behind Waikawa Bay, Picton. This was in conjunction with the Marlborough Biodiversity Forum. While Will learnt about their trapping program, I was learning about native plant propergation from seed to plant. Thank you Mish and Nigel for your generous and enthusiastic sharing.

Have arrived at Waitata lodge after dropping Rose and our clients off in Havelock to have a trip with Gary and Ellen Orchard. Just magic, beautifully quiet and the odd cicada chirping in the background.
