I am seeking reelection to the Stratford District Council Urban Ward this year. Candidate Stratford District Council
Address
297 Warwick Road
Stratford
4391
General information
I want to see Stratford continue to grow. Continued growth is critical for the future of our town and District. Expecting rates to fund infrastructure, roading and other critical services on a static rating base will not be sustainable. The new subdivision will help and hopefully should be the catalyst for more housing development. More people will bring more businesses and jobs. We need to continue investing in infrastructure and facilities. The proposed swimming pool complex will be a fantastic addition to the town as will the proposed bike park, Discovery trail, proposed Prospero Place development and a range of other initiatives that will transform this town and attract more people looking for affordable housing, a relaxed lifestyle, a safe place to live and raise families. Also we need to focus on tourism to attract more visitors both domestic and overseas - our location in the Heart of Taranaki and the Forgotten World Highway positions us well to offer visitors a great experience. I have served one term on Council and this has been a great learning experience - kind of an apprenticeship. Local Government is a complex 'beast' and it takes time to understand the Council's financials, planning processes and its wide range of general responsibilities. Besides my long background in the Financial services industry both in NZ and overseas, I have good experience in Governance both voluntary and professional: - Director TSB Bank Ltd, Trustee TSB Community Trust, Past Chair/Current Deputy Chair Stratford Business Association and Trustee Tutaki Youth Trust. This experience enables me to make an effective contribution to Council. We have owned our farm for about 15 years and lived here for 8 of those. We commenced Dolly's Milk nearly 6 years ago. We chose to live in this area and I am passionate about Stratford. So, 'DONT STOP THINKING ABOUT TOMORROW' is an apt statement to keep focussing on the future. I would appreciate your vote and ongoing support.
