Day 1 in Mexico. Food shopping with obligatory Bimbo Blanco shot (Mexican bread brand), a late lunch at Susannas and packing personal hygiene kits for the men's prison we will visit later in the week. Mark wanted to look like Rambo so we indulged him. Our house build starts tomorrow so time for bed!

6 furniture stores later and I think I have worked out how we will spend the house fitout money for Andrea, Carlos, Andrek and Daniela based on what they needed from my visit yesterday. First purchase...a new stove!! Thanks for your donations towards this! So appreciated!
Loved meeting the Mexican family we are building for next week. Found our concrete slab; Found the family who are currently living nearby but need to be out of that place asap and enjoyed a good hour hanging out with Carlos, Andrea, Andrek and Daniela! Lots of Spanish practice! Grateful for kiwi friends Mike and Sarah Louwrens who live in Mexico helping me with some translation 🙏

Hi Friends! Our Volunteer Build team heads to Mexico this Saturday to build for Andrek and his sister Daniela and their 79 year old grandparents Andrea & Carlos. After the build, we're going to be visiting one of the male prisons to give out personal care hygiene kits. If you've been on one of our Mexican trips before you know how well received our prison visit and hygiene kits are!
Can you sponsor a pack for NZ$10? That will buy a kit containing loo paper, toothbrush, toothpaste, soap, deodorant, and disposable razor. Donations over $5 get a tax receipt.
THANKS so much to all of you that have supported our VB projects this year - its so appreciated. We know its tough out there with cost of living pressures etc - but unfortunately the need hasn't gone away - just the cash and the number of volunteers able to help! Thanks for any support you can give.
And yep - that is Art Green (NZ's first Bachelor from the TV show) who came with Volunteer Build to build a home and distribute care packs with us in 2018.

Day 4 done! Posting a day late as a little tired last night 😆. Finished cyclone ties. Huge thanks to Oregon in Mount Maunganui for the ties and fixings!! Usually we make our own.. what a joy to have them pre made! Then strap, chicken wire, insulation paper and finally tin and 1000 roof screws! The roof team were legends in 30 degree heat which was probably more like 40 degrees up there! Lots of water breaks and ice blocks helped ease the pain! Windows and doors are almost done, and a temporary wall built until a second team comes to build and fund the second half ...could that be you??? Finally a speedy exit from site to shower and head to a sports bar to watch the All Blacks beat Argentina. Epic day 😎 by an epic Volunteer Build team 🙌 😎
Day 3 Vanuatu build done!! Started the day feeling loved cos the team decided to suprise me in the carpark saying they all wanted to ride with me to the job site today 😆 (footnote they did ride in the team van). Thankfully Block work finished, trusses and purlins up and cyclone strapping done!! All ready for tin, windows and doors tomorrow!! An awesome team celebration at Friday Night Fire 🔥 too! Tired? Heck yes!!! Happy 😊 tho!
Was a bit dark when we left last night but this is how we finished day 2 of the build. Stand by to check out the difference in 8 hours time!!
Day 2 Vanuatu school class build done!! It was a massive day getting most of the block work done, trusses made and already to go up tomorrow. And yep we did finish under truck lights tonight!! So good to chill with the team and 11 pizzas 🍕 tonight 😆

Yes! Our Vanuatu 🇻🇺 build team has arrived. Fruit and vege shopping prior to airport pick up and then 4 of us have put the profiles and corners in ready to start building tomorrow!!
