Nature is breathtaking and crossing paths with it cannot be overstated!

That's what we're all about, getting people outside and interacting with the ocean to appreciate and learn from it.

Well a few warm, sunny days and you start to think about summer coming up. This year has gone SO fast. Just watched this little bit of footage online. Seals are the dogs of the sea - :) Enjoy. We will be firing up end of October. We are just busy putting DoC paperwork for next week for our Dolphin and Seal Encounters and getting our boat back in the water.

This is footage from todays seal encounter - they are SO awesome and interactive. Thanks Wayne Feisst for always providing us with great footage. :)

Diveworks Charters did a 3 year study in conjunction with Mary Cowling and Rosemary Tully - which enabled us to get a permit to swim with them. One important part of the study is that the seals don't like people being on their rocks, or being higher than them - they get agitated and feel threatened - we always swim in the lagoon - stay away from their 'home' and let them come out to us.

Can't ask for better feedback:

Hi Steph,
We wanted to say thank you so much for the boat trip today. It was absolutely magical. The children loved it.
Many thanks,

Trips coming up next week:

2nd Jan~ spaces
3rd Jan ~ full
6th Jan ~ spaces

Info on tour:

Dolphin and Seal Encounters - approx 4 hour tour - usually morning tours - 9.30 am - 1.30pm (sea conditions are better in the morning)

The tour begins with customers arriving at our new Departure Office ~ 31 Quay Street, Whakatane. Payment made, then wetsuits, fins, are fitted out onto the people. We suggest all swimmers bring: towel, water bottle, lunch, warm jacket, hat, sunscreen, camera, flip flop shoes and a happy disposition. Customers will walk over to the Green Wharf - approx 50metres from shop. We have had a high success rate with dolphin sightings last season - fabulous opportunities to view and to swim - then heading back to Whale Island (Moutohora) to swim with the friendly Kekeno seals -

Adult $160 pp swimmer - includes snorkeling gear $130 watcher

Child $10 x their age - ie 1 year old $10, 5 year old $50 - swimmer or watcher
We have some children's wetsuits - if you have your own please bring it. :)

Note: Our tour is not a guaranteed viewing or swimming with dolphins or seals. The open sea is a big area so while we do our very best to spot dolphins some trips end up having no dolphins - the seals usually make up for this. Some trips, we may not be able to swim with dolphins - they may have babies, be feeding, going too fast or breeding. While we are able to be up close, swim and enjoy the marine life, the care of dolphin and seals natural activities come first - we are observers of the beautiful waters in and around Whale Island (Moutohora) - but can participate too.

If you are unwell please do not come on our tour - there is no charge for cancelling and we would rather you look after yourself 🙂
- we welcome ALL customers that want to come out and enjoy our beautiful waters.

ALL trips subject to min numbers, sea/weather conditions.

Boat has a toilet - common question 🙂

Just passed Survey for the next 3 years. A bit of cosmetic surgery to do and back in the water. It's been a hard 3 years, White Island followed by Covid with hardly many trips but we have survived. Thanks to all our customers who have stuck with us. We have some new premises to set up at 31 Quay street and hope to be up and running by the end of November. Regards to all Phil and Steph.

Our Story

Diveworks Charters is embarking on its 22nd year in operation and is a genuine family affair. Phil designed and purpose-built the 10m Diveworks boat so it easily handles the sea and is great for divers and snorkelers! There is also plenty of deck space for fishing groups.

Diveworks Fishing Trips are suitable for the family, for beginners or for keen anglers, casual or group bookings are available. Diveworks can supply all required equipment and can fillet your fish ready to be cooked locally. Inshore and offshore fishing, diving and sightseeing. Our fast 10.1 meter Sport fisher specializes in half and full day trips for up to 12 persons. Trips depart from Main Wharf. Bookings: contact 07 308 2001 or txt 027 2444 964

During summer, Diveworks Dolphin and Seal Encounters provides the opportunity to swim, view and enjoy dolphins that have come into the Bay of Plenty to feed and breed. Sightings of baby dolphin are incredible and the friendly Kekeno seals love to swim and play in a swimming bay at Whale Island.
