National Geographic announces that the shipwreck discovered by archaeologists off the Caribbean coast of Panama in 2011, was the Spanish merchant ship Encarnacíon that sank during a storm near the mouth of the Chagres River in 1681.

The cargo ship went down in 1681 with crates of swords, nails, and bolts of cloth.
