Tamandua is a genus of anteaters with two species: the southern tamandua and the northern tamandua. They live in forests and grasslands, are semiarboreal, and possess partially prehensile tails. They mainly eat ants and termites, but they occasionally eat bees, beetles, and insect larvae.

This type anteaters are found here in Panama in the Darien area.

Yesterday Portobelo celebrated el festival de la pollera, an authentic festival celebrating the Afro-Latin history of Panamá in one of our UNESCO sites Portobelo.

Portobelo was founded in 1597 by Spanish explorers and quickly was used as a Caribbean port for Peruvian silver. Legend has it that Christopher Columbus originally named the port "Puerto Bello", meaning "Beautiful Port", in 1502.

The Afro Panamanians descended from slaves brought to Panama during the colonial period and later on from the Caribbean islands to build the Panama Canal can be found in towns like Portobelo.

The Panamanians are proud of their heritage and love to celebrate!

Panamá Viejo, also known as Panamá la Vieja, is the remaining part of the original Panama City, the former capital of Panama, which was destroyed in 1671 by the Welsh privateer Henry Morgan. It is located in the suburbs of the current capital.

We are very excited to share this news, Panama had the honor to welcome the African kings and queens so they can reunite with their descendants in America and the world.

the minister of tourism travel last October to Ghana to “la puerta de no retorno” where they use to board slaves 500 years ago to launch this program.

The kings and queens refer to this ceremony in Panama as an act of healing and reconciliation to integrate humans and a search for what unite us.

Hiking our clients discover the green and black poison dart frog!! This is a 0.75 inches long frog and is hard to spot. The very small amount of poison the frog possesses is enough to make a human heart stop beating. However, like most poison dart frogs, the green-and-black poison dart frog only releases its poison if it feels threatened, and wild specimens can be handled provided the human holding it is calm and relaxed.
