Immerse yourself in the tradition, culture and devotion of Holy Week in Cusco with "Señor de los Temblores"!

In Cusco, many of its religious traditions are an example of the cultural syncretism between European and Andean traditions. Thus, in Cusco, the celebration of the city's Patron Saint, Señor de los Temblores, takes place, the image of a dark-skinned Christ, who annually goes out to the main streets of the city to bless the faithful and devotees; the streets of Cusco are filled with solemn and colorful processions, where the faithful carry on their shoulders the image of Señor de los Temblores, one of the most revered religious images in the region. Once-in-a-lifetime spiritual experience!

Celebrating the Day of the Dead in the Andes!!!

The traditions of the Day of the Dead, Halloween, All Saints, Samhai, the Day of the Ancestors, and so on can be found all over the world. This festival has different names and traditions depending on where you are. The deceased play a role in all of these celebrations and are the protagonists of the evening. We pay tribute to them on the night of October 31st and the 1st and 2nd of November.
On November 1st and 2nd, Peru celebrates the day of the living and the day of the dead. This celebration is known as “All Saints Day,” and each area of the country has a range of different customs, some of which are similar to one another.

Celebrating All Saints in Cusco

These festivities are celebrated in Cusco with the creation of various dishes, drinks, and traditional desserts that are a fusion of Andean culture and Catholic Spanish.
In general, the deceased are frequently visited on these dates, and offerings usually include culinary dishes, sweets, and drinks that they liked or preferred in life. Families also wear colorful decorations and flowers. Each family brings these foods to the cementery and distributes them to those who pray for their loved ones.
Because the offerings are spread on black tablecloths on top of tombs or in altars, this Andean ceremony is known as mast’achi or mastasq’a, which means laying of offerings.

T’anta Wawa (Baby Breads) are one of these delicious offerings that are usually prepared. In the Andean tradition, these colorful breads are given to all boys and girls, baby-shaped bread to girls and horse-shaped bread to boys. They’re also given to all people you appreciate, as an expression of affection and friendship.
They’re also purchased or made by those who had small children that died and take them to mass and have them baptized as if they were taking their deceased young child. Many of these children died at a young age and couldn’t be baptized and blessed. Or they simply carry them in their arms as if they were their deceased children and make them listen to mass so that their soul is at peace.
The horse bread and t’anta wawa include a type of doll with miniature faces or masks, prepared from flour, butter, and eggs, and topped with candies and chocolates. Wawa breads are walt’ado infants (babies rigorously wrapped in blankets), a very popular Andean habit, and horse breads are in the shape of a horse, an animal established in the colony and currently one of the principal modes of transportation in the Andean settlements.

Andean Cosmogony on the Day of the Dead.

In Andean tradition, death represents the continuation of life, and one method of bonding to the dead is through offerings, with the t’anta wawa being one of the offerings that’s still made today to those who are no longer with us.
According to some anthropologists, the wawa bread represents the beginning of life, the being that is born, and when the bread begins to be consumed, it comes to represent its decline. Others argue that it’s part of a syncretism between Andean and Spanish cultures, because it’s normal to baptize the wawas, who still wear Andean clothing, and what we see is the effect of the religion brought by the Spanish and the Andean culture.

Cuzco is a city in the Peruvian Andes that was the capital of the Inca Empire and it is known for its archaeological remains and Spanish colonial architecture. The Plaza de Armas is the center of the ancient city, with galleries, carved wooden balconies and ruins of Inca walls. The convent of Santo Domingo, in the Baroque style, was built on top of the Inca Temple of the Sun (Qoricancha) and has archaeological remains of Inca stonework.

The perfection of the Qoricancha - The most important Temple of the Tawantinsuyo.

According to the chroniclers, it was one of the most impressive buildings of the Inca Empire, it had entire walls covered with gold sheets inside, as it was the main temple dedicated to the Sun.

Coricancha, Ccorichancha or Qorikancha (in Quechua: Quri Kancha, "Golden Temple") was the main Inca temple, dedicated to the sun, as seen in the last image it was surrounded by sheets of Gold, as well as inside the temple.

There are various versions about who was the president who ordered the construction of Coricancha; while some claim that this building existed before the Incas occupied the place and that they remodeled the building, others claim that it was the Inca Pachacutec who ordered the construction of the temple after his victory over the Chancas in the year 1438. .

Likewise, according to some historians, during the time of Manco Cápac this was a small temple called Inticancha, while with the arrival of Pachacutec the construction of its colossal size was renamed Coricancha.

Possibly the most sacred and important building of the Tahuantinsuyo empire was the Coricancha, also known as the Temple of the Sun. During the time of the conquest, the temple was destroyed and looted. On its base, the church and convent of Santo Domingo was built. Currently, there is a museum with all the Inca pieces that were found there during the excavations.

This is not your country,
because you know its boundaries,
nor by the common language,
nor by the names of the dead.
This is your country,
because if you had to,
you would choose it again
to build here all your dreams.

No es éste tu país
porque conozcas sus linderos,
ni por el idioma común,
ni por los nombres de los mu***os.
Es éste tu país,
porque si tuvieras que hacerlo,
lo elegirías de nuevo
para construir aquí
todos tus sueños.

The culture alive in Puno - Peru 🇵🇪. Traditional dance "waka waka" in Puno celebrated on February during La Candelaria Virgen Festivity. It is a colonial and mestizo folk dance, and represents a satirical interpretation of a bullfight, combined with cattle and agricultural allusions. Beautiful little girl dancing "waka waka" and keeping the tradition alive!

Father of heaven, owner of this world and everything created have mercy on your creation my Lord and on my knees with my broken soul and with my repentant heart, I ask you in the name of all humanity, that one day you created it with love, please GIVE US ONE MORE OPPORTUNITY OF LIFE my Lord, forgive us for all the bad that we have done in these years, forgive us Lord, you are a God of Love full of mercy infinite.
Do not allow more humans to die, do not let the world end in this way. My Lord uproots this evil from the earth, give us the cure to counteract this disease that plagues the entire world, my heavenly father and show us that divine light. Give intelligence, perseverance, and prudence to the doctors and all those who can now help those most in need, transform their hearts and give them understanding to find the cure.
Beloved Father, you have already made us feel your resentment and I know that many humans do not understand my God, that you are offended by our actions, we have valued worldly things more, we have allowed ourselves to be filled with hatred, greed, arrogance, transforming the world that you did with love. But my God you are not a spiteful Father, you are always fair, I beg you to forget with your loving heart all this that has hurt you and forgive us, only you can change everything in a second. Let us live in the best way for you and at your service my God. Take this plague away from the whole world, my God heal us and continue loving your creation that with so much love you created it.
I ask you my blessed God in the powerful name of Jesus Christ, your beloved son who lives and reigns for ever and ever to him be glory, honor and power.
Thank you Father, Son and Holy Spirit of God Amen!

Please share this prayer, so that we can go back to the whole world and we will make humanity in a minute bend our knees to God and help us to emerge victorious from this pandemic.
