The big day finally arrived! ✨We embarked on an early journey to the KM 104 marker along the train tracks, setting the stage for an epic 6-mile hike on the famous Inca Trail to Machu Picchu. Our adventure began with a scenic train ride 🚞 to the trailhead, where we registered and set off. The first stop was the incredible Chachabamba, an ancient site rich with history. As we hiked upwards, we were treated to breathtaking vistas of the diverse cloud forest and the Urubamba Canyon below. 🍃
Reaching the stunning site of Wiñayhuayna was a highlight. This remarkable place, with its ceremonial water fountains, solar observatories, storehouses, and expansive farming terraces, was a marvel to explore. After a substantial packed lunch, we continued our journey. Finally, we arrived at the iconic Sun Gate, where we caught our first glimpse of the magnificent Machu Picchu. With few people around, we had the site almost to ourselves, adding to the sense of accomplishment and humility as we stood before this masterful construction, built with the sweat and tears of hundreds.
We retired to our inn for a well-deserved rest, filled with anticipation for our return visit the next morning. It was certainly an epic day. Thank you, Machu Picchu, for an unforgettable experience!

As we finished a beautiful 3-mile hike along a seldom-used Inca trail in the high mountains of the Patacancha Valley at Pumamarca we ended up in the vibrant town of Ollantaytambo. This place is truly one of a kind, especially today, as it’s the central day of the celebration of their patron saint, the Lord of Choquekillca! ✝️
The streets are alive with colorful costumes, music, and the palpable spirit of the fiesta. 🎉 You can truly feel the devotion and energy of the people, all driven by their deep-rooted religious traditions. It’s a unique day in the Sacred Valley of the Incas. ✨

Luck while birding is part of the deal as well, often you are in the right place at the right time ⌚️today was one of those days where we got killer looks of an extremely cute Goden-collared Manakin as it was taking a brake from a busy morning of displaying and looking handsome and of a very hard to see elsewhere Scaled Antpitta who gave us a hard time to find it in it’s singing perch! But guess what ??we managed and here the videos 👇

Bathing in birds is important part of feather maintenance. Water removes dirt, parasites, bacteria and others. This handsome Hooded Mountain-Tanager knows it well and visits this bath often at the Wayqecha Biological Station - Biolodge along the world famous Manu Road!

Quetzals are part of the trogon family; colorful tropical fruit-eating birds! 😍 Golden-headed Quetzal go beyond beauty with a distinctive golden-bronze head, iridescent green body and long tail and wind covers. The Quetzal's shimmering green and gold plumage provides effective camouflage in its arboreal habitat, combined with its habit of perching quietly, usually on a horizontal branch in the forest canopy, often this flashy bird remains surprisingly inconspicuous. This awesome male was seen in our recent Birds and Nature Tour to the world famous Manu National Park!
