ARTESANA: Wilma Maynas Inuma

📸Komal

🌈A traveler from India, who joined our Indigenous experience, made us the best photo session of the year😍

🇵🇪The Shipibo Community of Lima is a hidden gem in the city, a place where artists, muralists, designers, and of course photographers, like the great Komal, are attracted.

HOW IT ALL BEGAN

🥺In 2021, COVID-19 not only took my father but also the possibility of continuing to dedicate myself to tourism. It was a world stopped by fear. However, since I was a child, I learned everything is possible with creativity. If there was no work, then it was time to create it. ✨

🌈In 2022, art and its healing power made me dream of a unique and different experience to do what I loved most again. These were times of reunions, rediscovered, travelers were looking for real, more authentic connections. Then I contacted artisans from the Shipibo community of Lima, among them, Wilma Maynas, with whom I started this apparent madness of attracting tourists to a marginalized community in the city. It seemed impossible to many. ✨

🎈I remember that they told me that the reputation of the place linked to disorder and criminality would discourage tourists. Others told me that it was dirty and contaminated, people had just come out of the pandemic and no one would come. Despite everything, I continued and trusted that those people who love art and culture would well understand that the most beautiful jewels could be found even in unexpected places. ✨

🤗I finally got the first reservation in August 2022, our first visitor was a young artist from New York, who fell in love with the colors of the Shipibo tradition, and that is how, thanks to travelers like her, beautiful people, lovers of cultural diversity and the arts of the world, today we continue to grow and generate more authentic experiences and above all giving me the opportunity to generate work for myself and many more women artisans from the Shipibo Indigenous community of the city of Lima.✨

📌OFF THE BEATEN PATH IN LIMA

A Journey to Meet Silvia Ricopa

🌈On our unique slow tour through Lima, we visited the home of Silvia Ricopa, an exceptional artisan from the Shipibo-Konibo community. Her art, passed down through generations of women—from her grandmother to her mother, and now to her—is a living tradition that she shares wherever life takes her.

🎨Silvia now resides in Lima, where we had the pleasure of meeting her just a few days ago. In her community, she is surrounded by other artists who keep these traditions alive with each piece they create.

💚For those who have a heart for sustainable tourism and a deep appreciation for traditional arts, this is more than a tour—it’s a chance to connect with a vibrant community and participate in a truly authentic cultural experience in Lima.

✨Lima of my loves, I have walked through your streets forever. Visiting your ancient convents and churches has always been my best plan after school. I fondly remember asking one of the guides at the San Francisco convent about how she became a tourist guide. I wanted to do the same; even back then, I knew I wanted to guide and lead many tourists through Lima.

My beautiful city and its magnificent monuments have accompanied me since then, teaching me a lot from every angle. For me, Lima is my home, my land, my mother, my friends, and my life, and I carry it with me wherever I go. I miss it when I am away. I declare myself completely in love with you, my wonderful Lima.
