Susong Dalaga is a pair of conical mountains that resemble a young woman’s breast located in Barangay Gundaway, Cabarroguis, Quirino with both peaks rising 182 meters above sea level.

The trail to Susong Dalaga offers an exciting yet manageable hiking experience with a well-maintained 386-step man-made trail leading to the first peak. This trail, which is part of the province’s designated trail destinations, provides an accessible adventure for nature enthusiasts and casual hikers alike.

Reaching the summit requires 30 minutes to one hour hike. Upon reaching the top, visitors are rewarded with a breathtaking 360-degree panoramic view of the surrounding landscape. This includes Cabarroguis’ rugged mountainous terrain, rolling hills, verdant forests and rice fields. The view also extends to nearby villages, offering a comprehensive and picturesque snapshot of the province’s natural beauty.

Historically, the area was known for its rich biodiversity and resources. It was once a hunting ground for a variety of wildlife.

Today, Susong Dalaga is a protected area, renowned for its ecological significance. The mountains are covered with dense growths of endemic trees and feature a variety of impressive natural formations which makes it a premier destination for eco-tourism.

Rather than boiling the chicken and then plucking the feathers, as is typically done, Inlagim involves burning the feathers off the chicken. This process is carried out by exposing the chicken to an open flame, causing the feathers to burn away and the chicken to release oil, leaving it clean and featherless.

This method imparts a distinct smoky flavor to the meat, adding a unique depth of taste that is characteristic of Inlagim. The traditional recipe is quite simple, requiring only basic ingredients such as water and rock salt. Despite its simplicity, this method is a cherished part of Ifugao culinary heritage.

Today, while the traditional technique of Inlagim is still widely practiced, modern adaptations and innovations are being incorporated. These updates might include variations in seasoning or cooking methods to enhance the dish while preserving its authentic roots. Thus, Inlagim remains a vibrant and integral part of Ifugao culture, bridging the past with contemporary culinary practices.

The Fossilized flower-making industry is supported by the Provincial Government of Quirino in active collaboration with national agencies like the Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) to provide Quirinians, who are mostly dependent on agriculture, with an alternative source of livelihood. Painstakingly hand-made by craftsmen, fossilized flowers are now being exported abroad like Japan, Thailand, Hong Kong, Australia, Germany and even the USA.
These products stand as a testament to the exceptional creativity of Quirinians, transforming it into remarkable works of art. At just 12 years old, Ayesha Denisse R. Musni from Andres Bonifacio, Diffun, Quirino, has already made significant waves in the world of wakeboarding.

Ayesha’s journey into wakeboarding began in 2022. Inspired by her mentor, Coach Angel, she has spent countless hours honing her craft. “Si Coach Angel po ang nag-inspire sa akin para maglaro ng wakeboarding,” she humbly shared.

Competing for the second time, Ayesha clinched the championship title in the Beginner Women's Category at the recently concluded Regional Wakeboarding Competition held at the Quirino Watersports Complex in Cabarroguis. Reflecting on her victory, she revealed a secret to her success: “Last competition po kinabahan po ako kaya po hindi ako masyadong nakalaro ng maayos, pero ngayon po hindi na po ako masyadong kabado kaya nanalo po ako.” Her ability to conquer her nerves and maintain focus was crucial to her impressive performance.

This triumph has secured her a spot on the team that will represent Quirino Province at the National Competition in Pampanga this September.

Ayesha is more than just a champion; she is a beacon of inspiration for young athletes throughout Quirino and beyond. Her story is a powerful reminder that with the right mindset, support, and perseverance, even the youngest competitors can reach remarkable heights.

Binakol was introduced in Quirino Province by the Aklanons who settled in the municipality of Diffun, particularly in Aklan Village. Binakol is a chicken soup that features coconut water as its base, infusing the dish with a subtly sweet and refreshing taste.

The key ingredients to this dish are: (1) the native chicken since it was known for its distinct flavor and texture, (2) the coconut cream which lends sweetness that balances the savory notes of the chicken and spices, (3) lemongrass adds a citrusy zing, and (4) ginger that provides warmth and depth. These ingredients impart their aromatic flavors to the soup, creating a fragrant and comforting aroma that fills the cooking space.

Apart from its ingredients, what makes binakol unique from other chicken soups is on how Aklanons prepare the dish. It’s their traditional cooking method where they cook the ingredients inside a bamboo tube sealing its mouth with a banana leaf and tied with a palm leaf.

Up to this day, Binakol is still being served and enjoyed by the community of Aklanons preserving this culinary heritage alive despite the changing times. Binakol is not just an ordinary dish but a testament to the Aklanon’s ingenuity in using locally available ingredients to create delicious and nourishing meals. Its flavors narrate a story of tradition and profound connection to nature that define local cuisine.

Congratulations to the 40 participants for making waves and showcasing your incredible talent during our first-ever Regional Wakeboarding and Wakeskate Competition in the province, held at the Quirino Watersports Complex, Capitol Hills, Cabarroguis on July 27-28, 2024.

In his opening remarks, Executive Assistant to the Governor Mr. Elmor Villaruel, highlighted the privilege of Quirino Province being the only province in Region 2 and one of just six provinces in the Philippines with a wakeboarding facility. He added that the Provincial Government, headed by Gov. Dax Cua and Congw. Midy Cua, aims to expose our young people to new sports and this regional competition will serve as the elimination round for selecting the team members who will represent the province at the National Competition in Pampanga this coming September.

We extend our heartfelt gratitude to our esteemed board of judges, Mr. Ralph Williams and Mr. Angelo Louise Linao, both members of the Philippines 2019 SEA Games team, for their unwavering support to the Quirino Wakeboarding Community!🧡

Congratulations to the eleven brave individuals who successfully completed the five-day Wakeboarding Clinique, held from July 15-19, 2024 at the Quirino Watersports Complex, Capitol Hills, Cabarroguis! This clinique provided a fantastic opportunity for beginners to develop their skills and build confidence on the water.

In his closing message, Vice-Gov. Jojo Vaquilar encouraged all participants to continue nurturing their newfound passion and embrace the thrill of wakeboarding. He also emphasized that Quirino Province is unique for its exceptional wakeboarding facilities, making it an ideal location to pursue and excel in this exciting water sport.

We extend our heartfelt thanks to the QWC Training team, led by Mr. Angel Pagulayan, for their patience and dedication in training this new generation of wakeboarders. Our gratitude also goes to all the participants for their commitment throughout the clinique. Looking forward to seeing you on the water at future events.

Yesterday, July 18, 2024, the 3rd General Meeting of the Cagayan Valley Regional Tourism Council (CVRTC) hosted by the Province of Quirino was conducted at the Q-Life Processing Center in San Marcos, Cabarroguis, Quirino.

The agenda focused on the preparations for the upcoming Regional Expo/R2CVTC Assembly and DOT Regional Forum, scheduled to take place on September 26-27, 2024 in Bayombong, Nueva Vizcaya.

In attendance were CVRTC Chairperson Madam Ruth Padilla, Vice Chairperson for Tourism, Culture and the Arts Dr. Cecil La Madrid-Dy, Quirino Provincial Tourism Council Chairperson Madam Mary Ann Cua, Vice Chair for Tourism Research, Planning and Development Dr. Danilo Castillo, DOT-ARD Ms. Lelia Blancaflor, other CVRTC Officers and Board of Directors, CVRTC Legal Counsel Atty. Ruben Dumlao, Provincial, City and Municipal Tourism Officers of the Cagayan Valley Region and other stakeholders.

Following the event, the CVRTC Officers and members were treated with a tour of the Qlife Center to see its facilities, processes and products.
