TODAY IS THE FEAST OF THE TRANSFIGURATION OF THE LORD
It celebrates the revelation of Christ's divine glory on Mount Tabor in Galilee.

It was on this mountain that Jesus took Peter, James, and his brother John and was transfigured before them in clothes of dazzling white. It was here that Elijah and Moses appeared conversing with Jesus and it was here that they heard a voice from the cloud saying,
“This is my beloved Son. Listen to him.” - Mark 9:7

TODAY IS THE MEMORIAL OF SAINT IGNATIUS OF LOYOLA, PRIEST

NOT TO DO GOOD IS EVIL
(Homily delivered by Fr. Dave Concepcion at the Church of St. Ignatius of Loyola, Dubrovnik, Croatia | September 25, 2019)

St. Ignatius of Loyola said, "Man is created to praise, reverence, and serve God our Lord and by this means to save his soul."

Our own failure in life is that we are too busy doing the right thing and yet we did not ask God, “Is this Your will for me?”
Marami sa atin ang mamamatay na hindi man lang ginawa ang kalooban ng Diyos. Hindi ka makakaasa na makakapasok sa pinto ng Langit.

We all know the story that at the end, the gate will be closed and people from the outside will be knocking and the owner of the house from the inside will say, “I do not know you.” And even if the people outside will say, “But we dined with you, we walked with you.” Still the owner of the house will say, “Go away, you evil doers.”

We have failed to listen. It is not enough to be successful. It is not enough that you have a comfortable life. It is not enough that we are praised by people for the great things that we have done. We have to constantly ask the Lord, “Is this what you want from me? Is this your will for me?”

St. Ignatius of Loyola in his dynamic indifference asks, “Are you willing to let go of everything that will not bring you to God? Are you willing to let go of everything for the salvation of your soul?”
Seldom do we ask this question because we are too contented and we think that we are not doing anything wrong.

It is not enough that we do the right thing. Pope Francis said, “To avoid evil is good but not to do good is evil.” To be silent in the midst of evil is evil itself. It is not enough that we are not doing evil, we need to do good. And we need to do good for the right reason. The only reason for doing what is good is for the love of God. Anything good that you are not doing for the love of God, you are doing for yourselves. What can you gain from doing what is good and yet it is not for the love of God?

Do not commit the mistake of doing what is right but it is not what God wants you to do. It is not enough that you do good. It is not enough that you do good for the right reason. You must do the good that God desires from you.

This is the grace that we would like to ask from the the Lord, that we may have the wisdom to know what God wants us to do and the courage to do it, for the salvation of our souls. Amen. - David Tampus Concepcion

TODAY IS THE MEMORIAL OF SAINTS JOACHIM AND ANNE, Parents of the Blessed Virgin Mary.

We learn the names of Mary's parents, Joachim and Anna, from the Protoevangelium of James, an apocryphal gospel written about A.D. 150. Tradition states that the couple was childless until an angel appeared to Anna and told her that she would conceive.

The church of St. Anne in Israel was built by the Crusaders in 1140 and restored in the 19th century. Its simple and unadorned stone interior and extraordinarily reverberant acoustics make it one of the finest examples of medieval architecture in the country. According to local tradition, the Virgin Mary was born in the grotto over which the church is built, and the church is named after her mother.

In the same compound are the excavated Pools of Bethesda, a large public reservoir in use during the 1st century BC and 1st century AD. The New Testament speaks of Jesus miraculously curing a lame man by "a pool, which is called in the Hebrew Bethesda" (John 5).

TODAY IS THE FEAST OF ST. JAMES, APOSTLE
One of the first disciples of Jesus, he is also known as James the Great or James, son of Zebedee. The Synoptic Gospels say that he and his brother John were with their father by the seashore when Jesus called them to follow him.

Traditional belief states that Mary, while living in Jerusalem, supernaturally appeared to the Apostle James the Greater in AD 40 while he was preaching in what is now Spain. Those who adhere to this belief consider this appearance to be the only recorded instance of Mary exhibiting the mystical phenomenon of bilocation. Among Catholics, it is also considered the first Marian apparition, being unique due to having occurred while Mary was still living on Earth.

A wooden image commemorating the apparition is now enshrined at the Cathedral-Basilica of Our Lady of the Pillar in Zaragoza, Aragon, Spain.

Saint James is the patron saint of Spain and, according to tradition, his remains are held in Santiago de Compostela in Galicia. The relics of St. James were discovered in the time of king Alfonso II (791–842) and of bishop Theodemir of Iria. These traditions were the basis for the pilgrimage route that began in the 9th century to the shrine dedicated to the saint at Santiago de Compostela, in Galicia in Spain. The Way of St. James is a network of routes that cross Western Europe and arrive at Santiago through Northern Spain.

TODAY IS THE FEAST OF ST. MARY MAGDALENE

"Mary stayed outside the tomb weeping.
And as she wept, she bent over into the tomb
and saw two angels in white sitting there,
one at the head and one at the feet
where the Body of Jesus had been.
And they said to her, "Woman, why are you weeping?"
She said to them, "They have taken my Lord,
and I don't know where they laid him." - John 15: 11-15

In 2016, Pope Francis raised the July 22 memorial of St. Mary Magdalene to a feast on the church's liturgical calendar in recognition of St. Mary Magdalene's role as the first to witness Christ's resurrection and as a "true and authentic evangelizer,"
While most liturgical celebrations of individual saints during the year are known formally as memorials, those classified as feasts are reserved for important events in Christian history and for saints of particular significance, such as the Twelve Apostles.

AT THE SANCTUARY OF OUR LADY OF LOURDES in France with the Marian Pilgrimage Group of Fr. Randy Marquez.

The Shrine is visited by millions of pilgrims each year. Some come for healing of infirmities and relationships; some come to pray for work, finances, peace. Some come in gratitude for prayers answered.

The torchlight procession is a moving experience. The rosary prayed together in different languages gives one a firm conviction that praying for world peace is not futile.

AT THE BASILICA DI SANTA MARIA MAGGIORE, in Rome, Italy with the Marian Pilgrimage group of Fr. David Tampus Concepcion and Fr. Roy Rexelle Decena.

Known also as Santa Maria delle Nevi (Madonna of the Snow), this major papal basilica is one of the Seven Pilgrim Churches of Rome, the largest Catholic Marian church in Rome.

According to tradition, the Virgin Mary appeared in a dream to the aristocrat, Giovanni, and to Pope Liberius, asking for the construction of a Church in her honour, in a place that She would miraculously reveal. The Miracle of the Snows is recalled each year with a solemn celebration. During the liturgy, a shower of white petals falls from the ceiling, creating an almost perfect union between the congregation and the Mother of God.

The Basilica houses the most important Marian icon, the Salus Populi Romani (Protectress, or more literally health or salvation, of the Roman People). Pope Francis entrusts his Apostolic Journeys to the protection of the Salus Populi Romani, which he visits before every departure and after every return.

AT THE BASILICA OF OUR LADY OF GRACES & SANTA MARIA GORETTI in Nettuno, Italy with the Marian Pilgrimage group of Fr. David Tampus Concepcion and Fr. Roy Rexelle Decena.

Maria Teresa Goretti was an Italian virgin martyr of the Catholic Church, and one of the youngest saints to be canonized. Born to a farming family, her father died when she was nine, and the family had to share a house with another family, the Serenellis. She took over household duties while her mother and siblings worked in the fields.

One afternoon, Alessandro, the Serenellis' 20-year-old son, made sexual advances to her. When she refused to submit to him, he stabbed her 14 times. She was taken to the hospital but she died forgiving him. He was arrested, convicted, and jailed. During imprisonment, he repented. After 27 years, he was released from prison and visited her mother to beg forgiveness, which she granted.

Maria was beatified in 1947 and canonized in 1950. She is the patron saint of chastity, r**e victims, girls, youth, teenage girls, poverty, purity, and forgiveness.

AT SAN GIOVANNI ROTONDO, to visit the Shrine of St. Padre Pio of Pietrelcina with the Marian Pilgrimage group of Fr. David Tampus Concepcion and Fr. Roy Rexelle Decena.

Pio of Pietrelcina was an Italian Capuchin friar, priest, stigmatist, and mystic. He joined the Capuchins at fifteen and spent most of his religious life in the convent of San Giovanni Rotondo. He was marked by stigmata in 1918, leading to several investigations by the Holy See. Despite temporary sanctions imposed by the Vatican, his reputation kept increasing during his life, attracting many followers to San Giovanni Rotondo. Padre Pio is a well-loved saint, and favorite “go-to miracle facilitator” especially among Filipinos.

The Manoppello Image is a piece of linen cloth depicting the face of Jesus Christ. Studies done on the relic shows that the Manoppello Veil has no trace of color or blood … there was no trace of paint upon it either, nor are there any signs of it having been created as an imprint. Therefore, even to this day, the image and the cloth's origin remain a mystery.
