Strengthening Health Education, Environment and Development (SHEED) society was formed in 1999. It is a community-based organization (CBO) registered in 2003 under societies act 1860 XXI to address different social problems faced by the local people in general and female s*x workers in particular. SHEED started its work by educating the target population on safer s*x practices and making them awar
e about prevention of HIV& AIDS and other Sexually Transmitted Infections. This small initiative was supported by UNICEF. SHEED also has been working on popularizing the use of condoms among Female s*x workers in collaboration with National AIDS Control Program (NACP). It is also involved in increasing awareness on Hepatitis B and C in the area and has assisted many community members in getting their test done through hospitals and laboratories. It also successfully implemented one-year pilot project “Apni Sehat Aur Taleem” with financial assistance of CIDA and Embassy of Finland. Based on learning of pilot phase one year project “APNI SEHAT” with assistance of Embassy of Finland was implemented and has been extended for another years. SHEED is also implementing the HIV&AIDS and Reproductive Health prevention project among s*x workers in Sargodha and Iqbal Town Lahore with the financial assistance from Dutch Embassy, Embassy of Finland UNFPA and Punjab Aids Control Program (PACP). Organization also has experience of undertaking research studies on different Sexual Reproductive Health and HIV& AIDS issues in partnership with different National and International organizations. SHEED also has experience of implementing the project for child protection and education collaboration with Group Development GD) France, Action Aid, Common wealth and Local Funding. Moreover organization has established capacity to create awareness regarding women and child rights among local community and s*x workers by organizing different mass awareness raising events like Different Documentaries, Basant Festival, Candle Light Memorial Day, World AIDS Day, Street Theatres, Children Day, Fund Raising Musical Events, etc.
